Principal's Message - May
Welcome to May! I am not sure how we got to May so quickly, but we did! Please be sure
to check the calendar and the details included in this newsletter for our upcoming activities.
We have several classes who will be going on field trips this month to a variety of venues
including the Calgary Children’s Festival and the Calgary Zoo, I am sure they will enjoy their
adventures!
Planning for the next school is in full swing. Schools have been allocated their projections
and projected budgets. We are still in the process of determining configurations and our
staffing contingent for the 2013-2014 school year. I have shared budgeting information with
the staff and with the parents who attended the Parent Council meeting this month. We will
continue to have 11 classrooms however we are anticipating a drop in enrolment so the
class sizes may be smaller than this year and thus the support staff contingent in each
class would be reduced. Of course we will have a sufficient number of staff to adhere to the
2 to 1 ratio. In addition, although we will remain with 11 classes we will only have 2 junior
high classes, as we will only have 13 junior high aged students. The third junior high class
will become an elementary aged classroom. If you have any questions about budgeting and
planning for the next school year, please feel free to call me at the school. To assist us in
planning, please let us know if you are planning a move or will not be returning to Emily
Follensbee next year. As soon as decisions are finalized, I will pass that information along
to you.
May 6th to May 10th is Education Week. This year’s theme “Inspiring Education: Building
Connections, Celebrating Relationships” connects closely to the work we do at Emily
Follensbee School. As a community I believe we understand how important it is to build
connections with one another and that because of the strength of these connections our
relationships continue to grow in positive ways which in turn contributes to the success of
our students.
Please call or drop in, should you have any ideas, questions, or concerns.
Have a wonderful month of May!
Sincerely,
Janice O’Neil
