Students at Dr. Gordon Townsend School are connected to one of the following programs:

Rehabilitation and Education Program

Educational services are provided to both inpatient and outpatient students who have experienced brain injury, traumatic illness, require acute rehabilitation

following surgery, or are medically fragile. These students attend DGTS during the time period for which intensive therapies are prescribed. Students stay on average less then six months, with an average class size of six students in each of the two classrooms.

Intensive Pain and Rehabilitation Program (IPRP)

Educational services are provided for 12 to 18-year-old students while they are participating in an intensive complex pain program. Students receive academic support for approxmiately one hour each day during their admission to this six-week program.

Children’s Day Treatment Program (CDTP)

Educational services are provided for 8 to12-year-old students presenting with mental health concerns while they access assessment and treatment supports. Students stay for an average of 10 weeks in the program with an average class size of six students in each of the two classrooms.

Acute Care and Emergent Services (ACES)

Educational services are provided for students admitted to the Mental Health Patient Care Unit. Small group instruction, one-to-one support and academic tasks are part of their daily routine. Depending on acuity and availability for learning, students have access to one to two hours of school per day.

Eating Disorder Program

Educational services are provided for students up to 18 years of age presenting with severe eating disorders. Students can stay up to three months with approximately five students in the program at one time.

Rotary Flames House

Educational services are provided for students up to to 18 years of age admitted for respite care stays.

Inpatient Services

Through a simple referral process, educational services are provided to school aged patients during their admission to the hospital. An hour of drop-in classroom time is available on a daily basis to support outpatients attending appointments and patients who are not yet attending their origin school.
