Administrator’s Message | March
Did you know there are only two Black Walnut trees growing in all of Alberta? One of which
is in our Earl Grey courtyard!
Our school community has begun an engagement process where we are seeking input
from students, parents and staff of what they would like to see created in the courtyard.
Suggestions thus far have been raised beds for children to plant in, a gathering area to be
used as an outdoor classroom and sections of the courtyard to be planted with native
plants, bushes and trees. We also need to be mindful in our planning to think of water
conservation, low future maintenance and above all, keeping our very precious Black
Walnut safe and healthy.
We will be having a parent meeting hosted by our school council on Tuesday, March 7th, at
6:30 p.m. We encourage all interested parents to come out and see the proposals we have
thus far, and to give us your input of what you would like to see our courtyard become.
Student Led Conferences will be held on the evening of March 16 and the afternoon of
March 17. This conference format allows our students to take the driver seat and show
parents what they are learning in school. Teachers will also be available during this time.
I have always found the saying “March roars in like a lion” to be very true here in Calgary.
Let us hope for warm winds as March “goes out like a lamb,” as we all look forward to our
Spring break at the end of the month.
