Elbow Park Principal Message

Community: a group of people with a common background or shared interests within a society.

Interdependence: relying on mutual assistance, support, cooperation, or interaction among members.

Elbow Park students are respectful, compassionate, caring and kind.  They take responsibility for themselves, others and the environment because of the modeling shared by their families and the emphasis on the Circle of Courage and Pillars of Care at the school.  We are fortunate to work with such curious, able learners.  The depth of their knowledge, background experiences and inquisitiveness provides a powerful atmosphere in which to enhance learning.

It is also gratifying to work with such a dedicated parent community.  We are appreciative of the support of our parents and family members.  Parent volunteers provide a spirited start to the year by organizing the fall Muffin Mixer, evening Fall Fair and Magazine Drive.  Throughout the year, they support field trips, classroom activities, the office and library.  The bi-annual casino and gala provide support for artists in residence, technology initiatives, the music program and enrichment curricular resources. Nurturing the front courtyard and east outdoor classroom has enhanced the exterior aesthetics and architecture of the school. Our staff is treated to superb dinners and morning muffins to tide us over during parent teacher conferences.  Our students enjoy special lunches which allows them the ability to visit with their classmates over lunch.  Birthday books add to our library collection and celebrate students through this initiative.  Our partner school families at James Short are recipients of warm clothing and reading material for winter months, connected with adult readers on a weekly basis and are recipients of Christmas Hampers that bring delight to many over the holidays.  It is heartwarming to watch the  students wrap the presents and make cards with their buddies for these families each December.

Thank you, parents and students, for your commitment to Elbow Park School students and staff as well as those less fortunate in our city and internationally.  Thank you School Council for supporting extraordinary residency experiences our students enjoy. It is an honour to be a part of this amazing community.

Sincerely, Joan Olafson
