Parents are encouraged to be involved in their child’s classroom learning. Speak with your child’s teacher about opportunities for you to help. Please be aware that all parents who work with children are required to complete a Calgary Police Security Screening, which is valid for a period of 5 years. This process typically takes 4-5 weeks. We encourage all parents who think they might want to volunteer and work with children during the school year to stop by the school office and complete the security screening form. Two pieces (one government issued photo id) are required.
Please note that
volunteers are asked to sign in each time they enter the school at the desk by the office and to wear a name tag at all times while volunteering.

A Message from Mr. Hebert, Our Principal- Welcome Back!
"It is with great pride that I sit down to write the first message for the year for Sir James Lougheed. Going into my second year as principal at SJL I am excited about the many good things that have come to pass in the past year. While we have had the set back of losing our kindergarten program for this year, I am confident that that as our community grows with the addition of the new homes at Currie Barracks, and as word gets out surrounding the work we continue to do at SJL, the school will continue to be seen as a school of choice by our community...."

Artist in Residency: Carol Bondaroff
Ms. Bondaroff has been working with all of the students at Sir James Lougheed throughout the month of February. Children have been busy exploring the art of printmaking, creating three dimensional wire sculptures, the use of modeling clay, making their own paper and exploring different mediums in painting. The children have been so proud of the work that they have created and hope to be sharing many of their creations at our upcoming Artwalk on April 22nd. More information about this special evening will be sent home in April. Additionally, classes will be submitting items for sale at our upcoming Silent on March 25th and 26th sponsored by parent council. More detailed information about this event will also be sent home shortly.
How we are doing at Sir James Lougheed School? It is important for us to know how parents feel about the work we do to provide a quality learning environment for children. We value your voice and are looking forward to your feedback about our work this year.
A paper copy will also be sent home with your child.
Extending our Learning Through Webpage Development
Mr. Careclakis and Mr. Millar have been working with the grade 3/4 students to develop their own webpages as part of developing digital portfolios. Visit Mr. Millar's classroom webpage to visit each student's digital portfolio.
We are excited to announce that our new Breakfast Program is now up and running! All Sir James Lougheed Children are invited to drop in between 8:00 and 8:35 a.m. to eat a healthy breakfast before their day of learning begins! We hope that your child will be able to join us!
We are always looking for parent volunteers to help run the breakfast program. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact your child's teacher or our school secretary at 403-777-8400.
The 2009-2010 SJL Art Walk
