Microsoft Offer - Free Software for Students
CBE has an agreement with Microsoft to provide students with frees Microsoft 365 software.
This package includes Word, Excel, One Note and Powerpoint. Clicking here will take you to the CBE web page where you can download this software. You need your child's CBE Student ID (an eight or nine digit number) in order to access the download. Some students know their number. If not, it can be found on a report card or by contacting your child’s teacher or our office.

You will find major dates for the school year on the front page of our web site and in the 2014-2015 calendar. Very importantly, with the changing nature of schedules and information, please do not use the Calendar of Events as listed in the student agenda.  The most up-to-date news and information will be posted on our web site.
In September, you had the opportunity to choose to receive your newsletter and calendar via email or as a paper copy. This newsletter has been delivered to you based on that information. If you would like to change the way you receive newsletters, please contact Sandy in the office.

Daily Agendas - Very Important

Student agendas are a daily form of organization and communication between home and school for Kindergarten to Grade 6. It is the responsibility of parents to read and sign your child’s agenda each day. Students record their homework, special events and behavior in their agenda. This is an excellent place to ask questions and give comments to your child’s teacher. If you know doctor and dentist appointments in advance please indicate this in the agenda one or two days prior to the day the child will be away.

If your child/ren are going to be away from or late for school for any reason please call the school at 403-777-6080 and press “1” for the attendance line. This line can be accessed at anytime day or night. This helps to confirm why children are away.

When your emergency, work or home phone numbers change please let us know. We will then be able to contact you in case of an emergency.

If your child/children have been absent due to sickness and return to school the expectation is that they are well enough to participate in all school activities.

Playground Supervision

Students are to arrive at school after 8:30 am in the morning and after 12:30 in the afternoon as playground supervision begins at that time. Students are expected to go home at dismissal times and are to play on the playground only with adult supervision.

Digital Citizenship

To understand Calgary Board of Educations approach to Internet safety please visit:

Digital Citizenship at the CBE
Administrative Regulation 1062 – Responsible Use of Electronic Information Resources (PDF)

Alternate Evacuation Site

Should a situation arise that the staff and students need to be evacuated from the school James Shouldice Manor - 4730 19 Ave NW - will be our alternate site.

If the situation involves James Shouldice Manor (i.e., City of Calgary power problems), we would then use Montgomery Community Association as our alternative evacuation site.

Parents will be contacted as soon as everyone is safe and secure. School Administration or a delegate will contact parents with procedures for picking up their children.

Pets are not allowed in the school for safety and allergy reasons unless a teacher has requested a pet to visit for a curriculum based student presentation.

It is unlawful for owners of dogs to bring them onto Calgary Board of Education property. There are signs posted on our fences. We appreciate your co-operation with regards to the above concerns.

Inclement Weather

The weather in Calgary can be unpredictable and changeable. Students are expected to dress appropriately for the weather. Boots, jacket, mitts and a hat should be worn in the winter. Please label all articles of clothing with your child's name so lost items can be more easily found. If the temperature is -20 degrees C students will be allowed to come into the school before the bell, at lunchtime, and/or remain inside for recess.

Entering and Exiting the School Building

Students are required to line-up when the bell rings and enter the school under a staff member's supervision. Once all children are in the school the doors will all be locked. Any child who is late is asked to enter through the main door for a late slip. Children should not be entering the main door on a daily basis unless they are late.

Parents should not be parking or dropping off children in the staff parking lot. Children should not be in the parking lot at any time. There is ample parking on the streets adjacent to the school and children should only be entering the playground at the designated entrances or at the hole in the fence on the north side

During the day all persons entering the school must check in at the office. No one (volunteers, parents, relatives, CBE employees) is to proceed to a classroom without permission from the office. This rule applies to everyone.

Safety of the school and its occupants is our utmost concern. These procedures will be strictly enforced.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Returning to School After an Illness

If your child/ren have been absent due to sickness and return to school the expectation is they are then well enough to participate in all the functions of the school.

The expectation is that they will go outside with the students at recess and lunchtime (weather permitting).

Teachers and lunchroom supervisors outside cover supervision for recess and lunchtime.

CBE Lunch Program

Children attending the lunch program will not be permitted to leave the school property during the lunch hour unless a parent personally signs them out. If you are planning on taking your child/ren out for lunch, please contact the school office beforehand or make sure that one of the supervisors know that your child is leaving.
