HOW DO I REGISTER MY CHILD FOR kindergarten?

Register your child for kindergarten starting on January 14, 2013. You will need to provide proof of your child’s name, date of birth, and citizenship. Only the following documents are accepted:

• birth certificate
• Canadian citizenship certificate
• passport
• baptismal certificate
• court order

You will also need to bring information that confirms your address.

Glendale School’s Storytelling Festival

Glendale students worked over the course of two months with storyteller Jeff Stockton learning and practicing the art of storytelling. Jeff is an amazing artist and led, taught and inspired the students to find their own inner storyteller. On April 25 Glendale School hosted our Storytelling Festival giving students the opportunity to showcase all the skills they had learned. As Adam in Grade 5 stated, “Storytelling is more than just words – it’s like a real adventure except it’s in words and it’s a lot of fun to tell. ” Jill in Grade 6 discovered that, “Storytelling is a way to become friends with words that make a picture in your mind.”
Our festival began in the gym where both the morning and afternoon Kindergarten classes performed stories that they had written and adapted.  The Kindergarten children were a HUGE hit!  As Brady noted, “It felt good to see my mom and have her look and listen while I said my words.” Michaella felt like she was being a real cool star because “everyone watched me do my words and acting.”

The story, “Whose Fault Was It?” was written by students from Grade 1 – 6 and then presented by a different group of students. These students worked through many lunch hours to prepare for an audience. They amused the audience with their actions, expression and very unique Glendale School story!

After the assembly, students and parents regrouped to twenty different storytelling venues around the school. Each venue had a storytelling team represented by students in Grade 1 – 6.  Each student told a story that they had been rehearsing using expression and actions. Stepping into the circle of awesomeness (a hula hoop on the floor) was one strategy that students used to calm and focus themselves while telling their story.
Afterwards, parents remarked that students had presented with such poise and clarity. “I noticed and loved that the kids had developed an amazing support group as they practiced their storytelling” said Denise King. Deb Simpson commented that, “ The individual stories told by each student in front of an audience were truly amazing. They were so brave and confident. They seemed to really enjoy being in the spotlight! It was a fantastic and memorable evening.”  Colleen Murray felt that,“The children’s stories were so beautifully authentic, they each brought out the spirit and insight of these incredible students.” 
It was a remarkable festival where every child had the opportunity to grow. And as Sarah in Grade 6 stated, “Storytelling is more than entertainment; it’s like a valuable life lesson.”
