Let’s Create an Opera
“Let’s Create an Opera” Auditions
Glendale School is performing Volcano (working title) in May. This opera is the result of the collaborative effort between our students, the Calgary Opera, librettist Aaron Coates and composer John Abram. All students will be involved in the production of this original work. Currently we are gearing up for the performance piece. Auditions will be held for lead and supporting characters which will be open to students in Grades Two to Six. A huge part of the success lies on the commitment of the performers and the parents; therefore, it is crucial that performers attend all rehearsals. It is important to note that there may be rehearsals half-hour before/after school or during lunch hour. Parents and students should take this into consideration prior to signing up for the audition. Those who have agreed to and understood this commitment may request an audition package from Ms. Ling during music class. As part of this package, there will be information on audition information and suggestions, a list of songs for the sampling of parts and a permission slip with the agreement signed by both you (the performer) and a parent. These permission forms must be returned to Ms. Ling no later than Wednesday, February 9th, 2012. Auditions will occur on Tuesday, February 14th, 2012 starting at lunch hour. The Audition Committee will assign roles as deemed appropriate.
Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact Deborah Ling at kdling@cbe.ab.ca more information.

Grades Kindergarten and 1/2 Robotics
Oh no! The volcanoes on our island have erupted and the Pahoehoe lava is creeping towards our town! The safe zone where we keep our boats are on the other side of the island. We must use our robots to get to safety, but with all that pointy A’a lava, we have to be careful since it will shred our tires.
Thankfully we have Mr. Gaskell (Robot Engineer Extraordinaire) to help us! Using light sensors and microphones, we are able to program our robots to safely make their way across the island to the awaiting ships!
