Isis and OsirisPage 4Isis’ dress was muddy and she was tired and dirty. She could not find anyone on her way who could offer her food, rest, or shelter. Then she saw two boys who were not afraid of snakes and were playing with them. They were catching them and shaking them in a basket. Isis asked if they had seen the sarcophagus. Yes, they had, and they showed her where to look. The boys said the box had been caught in a tree.
When Isis went there, she found that someone had cut down the tree and taken it away. A king had taken it to his castle and made the tree into a big pillar. Isis pretended to be a serving lady and worked in the castle. She did magic to help the king’s baby. When the king knew who she was, he cut open the pillar, and gave her the box. Isis took it out and opened it. But Osiris was dead. Isis felt terrible. She knew she had to do something. |
