Water Lily Art

As part of our Kindergarten inquiry, we investigated water lilies. Students inquired into the habitat, properties (i.e., petals, pads, roots), colours, and shapes of water lilies.

We also setup a water centre, during this time, where students investigated items that float and sink. They were also challenged to try and make items that float sink and vice versa.

For the art project, using a pencil, students first drew a water lily (or several). Next, they took wax crayons and went over their pencil markings paying special attention to the colours of water lilies and blending when possible. Once this was complete, with the help of their teachers, they dipped their artwork into a bin containing blue paint, cooking oil, and water. The cooking oil mixed with water, made unique patterning on the images.
