Principal’s Message | February
Wow it is hard to believe we are a month into 2017!
January has brought some incredible weather challenges. We
started the month with several indoor recesses due to the
freezing temperatures followed by much appreciated chinooks
which have turned our field into a skating rink! We are
working hard with our facility operator and the CBE grounds
staff to keep our playground and field as safe as possible,
however we have still had a few slips and falls. We will
continue our vigilance and appreciate you reminding your
child to try and avoid playing on the ice.
The long awaited painting project is beginning. Please be
patience with us as we work through this project at school.
There will be need for some areas to be temporarily out of use
as the painters make their way through the building. All work
will be done after hours and on weekends so no learning will
be disrupted. In order to minimize disruption to everyone the
office area will be done first with the majority of the work
happening over the February long weekend.
Accountability Pillar Survey
As an annual check-up on the education system, the
Accountability Pillar provides an opportunity for Alberta
Education and school authorities to ensure that we are
equipping students for success.
The Accountability Pillar uses a set of 16 indicators consisting
of surveys of students, parents and teachers on various aspects
of quality; student outcomes such as dropout and high school
completion rates; and provincial assessments of student
The Accountability Pillar Survey will be conducted from January to the end of February:
- In January, parents/guardians of students in grades 4, 7 and 10 will receive a survey in the mail from
- In February, students in grades 4, 7 and 10 and all teachers will be completing their surveys online at
All surveys are anonymous and ask questions about experiences with the school. All parents/guardians
receive the English version of the survey in the mail, but Alberta Education also provides it in Arabic,
Blackfoot, Chinese, Cree, French, Korean, Punjabi, Spanish, Tagalog and Urdu. If you would prefer to
respond to the survey in one of these languages, please tell the principal of your child’s school and a copy
will be sent to you.
It is very important that parents/guardians complete the survey and return it to Alberta Education.
Alberta Education and the public use the results of the Accountability Pillar Survey to assess satisfaction
with the quality of education in our schools. In addition, the Calgary Board of Education uses the
information to improve teaching and learning for your children.
When you complete the survey: If you “Don’t Know” the answer to a particular question, please skip
that question and go to the next one, unless you want your response to count as a negative one.
Your participation in the survey helps provide important information on the quality of education your
child is receiving, so we encourage you to return your survey promptly.
