E3: Citizenship ... Each student will be a responsible citizen by being an informed and involved member in his or her local, national and global communities.
E:4- Character- Each student will possess the character to do what is right, act morally with wisdom, and balance individual concerns with the rights and needs of others.
In the past, we have highlighted a virtue of the month to discuss on a school wide basis. While this approach proved effective in helping children understand the different virtues, we noticed that it did not always translate into meaningful forms of action.
This year’s approach is action oriented. We want students to be able to undertake specific actions that are indicative of specific virtues. Students are focusing on specific character virtues that are relevant to their grade and developmental level. This means that the different grade groups are fostering character education in ways that are particularly meaningful to their students.
It is our belief that children learn most effectively when they are engaged and active in their learning. By transforming our virtues based approach into one characterized by acts of generosity, kindness, responsibility and compassion, we are confident that our children will develop into citizens of character.
Art Club
Grade 3 and 4 students were asked to bring a nature picture to paint from using tempera paint. Students used spatulas, forks, spoons, sticks, sponges, and plastic knives to paint with and make textures. They learned how to mix colours and overlap paint to create a more realistic picture. They also learned how to make shadows and water reflections. Enjoy!
The Grade 3 and 4's in art club have been exploring Van Gogh's "Starry Night" and were inspired to create these pictures. The students focussed on using color, shade and brush stroke to communicate emotion.

Remembrance Day
All students were asked to think about what Remembrance Day means to them including notions of peace, sacrifice and caring. These shoes will be sent to our brave Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan as a small token of our thanks and acknowledgement to them that there are children at home who appreciate what they do and who they are.
