For Parents

The Alice Jamieson Girls’ Academy for Grades 4 to 9 is designed to ensure that girls will develop academic, leadership and organizational skills for success in their personal life, their educational endeavours and their career pathways. This program celebrates academic mastery and personal best. Unique educational initiatives of the program include an emphasis on student independence, empowerment and leadership, the construction of mentorship networks with successful women, provision of counsel for post-program pathways and exposure to sciences and technology. Girls will have the opportunity to examine gender roles through Women’s Studies and a girl-focused curriculum in addition to the Alberta Program of Studies. The overall goal is to build on girls' strengths to create an optimistic and empowered culture.

Building a community of learners one step at a time

An optimistic future for your girls began at their birth and was advanced in August 2002 when the feasibility committee conceptualized Alice Jamieson Girls’ Academy. Each step brings the girls closer to Alice Jamieson Girls’ Academy’s relationship-based program. The success of this innovative, girl-centred program depends on staff, students, parents and members of the larger community working together. You can be confident that this program will be a success!

Advocacy for the students is evident throughout Calgary. The staff, students and parents of Stanley Jones School warmly welcomed this Academy knowing it will benefit the whole community. Caring citizens of Calgary want the girls in our program to enter adulthood with competence and confidence and are providing mentorship opportunities. It is wonderful to see so many communities come together to support the philosophy of AJA. Imagine how much more powerful these communities will be when they meet the AJA students!
