Severe Peanut Allergies
Why we need to avoid having peanuts at school

I am writing to you on behalf of several of our students. These students have a potentially life-threatening allergy to peanuts.

If peanut butter, peanut, a peanut product such as peanut oil enters the body of these children through the eyes, nose or mouth, the student experiences very strong reactions. Without immediate medical treatment the student could die.

All of our school staff, including lunch program staff, have been made aware of this situation and have been instructed in the correct administration of an Epipen. Prevention, of course, is the best approach for reducing the risk of a severe reaction. We will be discussing the situation with the other students in the classrooms and asking them not to share snacks, treats or lunches with any other students. Please remind your child not to share treats or lunch items with other students.

We need your help to make our school safe for all students by keeping all nuts and nut products out of our school. Please remember the health and safety of these children and sent lunches/snack that are free of peanuts and peanut products. The families of these children will appreciate your support.

If you have any questions or comments, please phone me at the above number.

Thank you for helping us to keep all of the students safe.

School Bus Information

Children are transported to our school from Panorama Hills for Grade 6 and from Kincora, Evanston, Sage Hill/Valley, Beddington Heights, Hidden Valley, Hanson Ranch, Huntington Hills, McEwan and Sandstone for K to Grade 5 TLC  The cost per child for this service is $295.00 per year.

All students requiring bus transportation must complete an Agreement for Transportation Services form and pay the required fee or apply for a waiver before they can access busing. These forms are available from our school office.

Volunteers

Parental involvement is a vital component of school programs. At Dr. J. K. Mulloy School we encourage parents to be involved in our volunteer program.

Registration and security clearance is required for volunteers. Volunteers are people who assist schools and/or students in either curricular or extra-curricular activities. Volunteers requiring registration are placed in positions of trust with students, or property of the Calgary Board of Education. This includes parent/community volunteers, volunteer drivers and students volunteering outside of their own school.

The process of volunteering consists of two parts.
a) The completion of a Volunteer Registration Form
b) The completion of a disclosure statement that permits the Calgary Police Service to search for a volunteer's criminal record.

If you completed these forms last year you only need to complete a volunteer registration form this year.  However, all volunteers new to our school must complete the forms. If you had a search completed for your criminal record at another school, we can transfer the record to our school. You just need to come to the school and bring government ID that has your picture.
