Principal's Message - May

Tansi, Oki, Hello Piitoayis Families.

It's hard to believe that it's already May and that we only have eight weeks left of school until summer break.

As we begin to wrap-up this school year, we are also preparing for the next school year (2013-2014). If you would like to register a new student (K-6) in our school, please call Ms. Sharon and she will send the registra-tion package home to you.

In support of next year's new Kindergarten students, we will be holding our Welcome to Kindergarten Orientation on Friday, May 10th in the afternoon. For more information, please call Ms. Sharon in the Main Office.

Congratulations to Layla in Grade 6 who recently placed 2nd in the Teen's Traditional category at the All Nations Pow Wow in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA. We are so proud of your hard-work and commitment to your Blackfoot culture.

Over the last month, we have had a number of artists in our classrooms providing our students with opportunities to explore their stories as Ab-original people and students at Piitoayis Family School. A huge THANK YOU to EducationMatters for their support and funding for our Artist in Residence Program. Ay Ay EducationMatters!

As you know, this year marks our 10 year anniversary and in celebration, we will be holding an evening event on June 13th. Stay tuned for the details to be sent home over the next few weeks. In the meantime, please "like" our school on Facebook, join the celebration event, and share it with any former Piitoayis students, families and staff.

We still have room for more students in our after-school pow wow program on Thursday's. If you would like more information, please call Ms. Stacy at the school. To showcase our learning, we will be dancing at the 10 Year Celebration in June.  Cheer loud for our little dance troupe.

Join me on Tuesday, June 28th (1:30-3:00) in the Family Room for some tea and bannock while we talk about our school and make plans for the future. All caregivers are welcome to attend. If you can't attend and ever want to talk about your child's schooling or about the school, please drop by or call Ms. Sharon to schedule a time to meet.

Love, Ms. Lori
