Starting the 2017-2018 School Year

 

The school office will be open for new registrations or questions on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017. Students will begin their new year on Tuesday, Sept. 5 at 8:25 AM. In July, kindergarten students and their families will receive a letter stating their AM or PM placement and their staggered entry start date.

 

Do You Know Where Fund Raising Goes?

 

Fundraising efforts supported by the Somerset School Council and led by the Friends of Somerset School Foundation enhance student learning and student life at Somerset School.

 

Some examples where the money raised goes are:

  • Family picnic entertainment
  • Sports day ice-cream
  • Permanent benches for the 10th anniversary (located out front)
  • Canada 150 Fence Art Legacy Project
  • Library books
  • Physical education and music equipment
  • Art supplies, hands-on learning materials for mathematics, science, language arts and social studies
  • Outdoor Education field trips to Ann and Sandy Cross Conservation Area
  • Live theatre performances
  • Popcorn machine
  • Hip hop dance residencies
  • Home reading books
  • Student agendas and technology

The Somerset School Council, FSSF and volunteers, in cooperation with the school, organize and run the School Family Dance and Spring Carnival, the seven special treat days throughout the year and run and lead the Friends of Somerset School Foundation fundraising casino and other fundraising efforts.

Kindergarten Registration for 2017-2018

Registration for the 2017-18 school year is ongoing. Children must be at least four years old on or before March 1 to start kindergarten in September of the same calendar year. You have to register in person at your school with proof of residence, your child's name, date of birth and citizenship. Peanut and Tree Nut Aware Policy
and Medically Vulnerable Students

We have students who are medically vulnerable to various situations. Students may have life threatening reactions to peanuts and/or tree nuts.

  • Only send lunches, snacks and special treats that are peanut and tree-nut free.

The intent of this program is to add further resources to reach all students in the best way possible to further their ability and joy of reading for a lifetime. For more information on this program please go to http://calgaryreads.com/

 

We are looking for volunteers to help read with students. If you have some time and would be able to help read with students please call the school at 403-777-7001. (You must have Police Clearance done in order to volunteer in the school).

 

Traffic Safety & Clean Air

Help keep our students and community members safe - please respect the school zone speed limits, space around our pedestrian sidewalks and fire hydrants by parking five metres back for the safety of everyone.

 

For the environment we are promoting a “No Idle Zone” around the school.
