Parent/Teacher Conferences - Mar. 22-23

Student-led conferences are:

Wed., Mar. 22nd Kdg 8:30 AM-12:30 PM, Kdg-Gr.6 3:30 PM-8 PM

Thur., Mar. 23rd 8AM-1PM

There is no school for Kindergarten students on Wednesday 22nd and no school for all students on Thursday 23rd and Friday 24th.

This is our third formal face-to-face meeting with parents. While there will be no formal report card, these interviews are an integral part of student progress reporting. Your children will be explaining how they have grown/learned this term and what their ‘next steps’ will be.

Format: Each teacher will be organizing four fifteen minute centers through which parents and their children will rotate. Parents attending all four centers will need one hour of time. One center will be the direct face-to-face conversation between parents/teachers/students. Teachers will organize the centers so that the face-to-face conversation maintains as much parent/student/teacher confidentiality as possible while the other centers take place in the room. Another center will be literacy-based and one center will be numeracy-based. The final center will be a “teacher-chosen? center. Four groups of parents/students will be able to work through the four centers in one hour long period.

Questions: Each year, we provide parents with a set of questions to use as guides with their child(ren). This was a request parents made in the past. Below are the questions teaching staff collaboratively brainstormed to be used during conferences.

  1. Explain what you are/were asked to do? What is/was the task? Show me now.
  2. Why is this important to learn?
  3. How will you/do you know you are successful? What will be/is your evidence of this success?
  4. What do you do well? What do you need to work on?
  5. What will your next step be?

Opportunity to have specific questions will be available for the one “Optional" center teachers determine. Should a parent need further face-to-face time with the teacher, he/she is asked to schedule a separate conversation outside of these scheduled conferences.
