School Council and SPA Update | February

School Council and the Sundance Parents Association warmly invite you to our meetings, the next one being on Wednesday February 21st at 6:30pm in the school library. Attending these meetings are a fantastic way to get involved in your child’s education, get to know other parents and be a part of plans and decision making that impacts Sundance School. We want, need, and appreciate your input! This year we have our meetings rotating between different days so that more parents may attend. All meetings take place in the Sundance School Library. Please take a look at our meeting dates and join us to continue to make Sundance School a great school to attend!
We would like to thank Michelle S. for sharing her time, energy and enthusiasm with Sundance School in a variety of roles on School Council most recently as Council Chair for the past 2 years. Michelle has decided to step down from her role as Chair and will be missed. Thank you Michelle for your many years of volunteering and the significant impact you have had at Sundance!

We are looking for a new Chair for School Council- for more information about this role please contact Alana B. at sundanceparentsassoc@gmail.com or Abra G. at volunteer.sundance@gmail.com

CBE donation update

Thank you again for all your CBE donations. Your children will benefit greatly as the funds will go towards learning through cultural events and much, much more. I am excited to announce that we have passed last year's fundraising amount by $70 and even more excited to announce that the number of families that have contributed has more than doubled when compared to last year. This is a clear example that many helpers ease the load of all!!! Thank you again and I hope you all have a fantastic holiday season!! Your donations will continue to be accepted and appreciated; however, moving forward the tax receipts will be for 2018. Playground update: Our Sundance playground is due for new equipment. Due to safety reasons and the age of the current equipment there have already been a few parts that have been removed and/or replaced. The cost to replace the playground will be upwards of $500,000 and will require the help of each and every Sundance Elementary family. Your help will be needed for planning, communication and fundraising. We are in the process of forming the Sundance Playground Committee and need the below lead roles;

  • Committee Lead (President) – lead the team and keep track of the timeline. Review and keep up to date on the current playground condition and expiry dates
  • Secretary / Administrator - take and keep track of all meeting minutes / notes
  • Grants - person who will be in charge of all grants - working with CBE and Sundance Principal
  • Corporate donations - person who will head up corporate donations by composing letters and organizing the corporate donation letters and asks
  • Personal donations - person who will spear up bottle drives, car washes, bake sales, garage sales - basically all the non-corporate donations events. One person could head this up but have different people head up different fundraising events.
  • Playground planning (this may need 2 people) - survey students/parents’ wishes, review bylaws of limitations of playground. With the CBE - we will only be able to work with CBE approved playground equipment providers
  • Volunteer Coordinator - lead for all volunteers
  • Actual Construction - coordinating the construction / build of the playground
  • Communications Director - communicate via newsletter / Facebook group page. The key communicator between progress and Sundance School families.

Kind Regards, Deni Greaves - Vice Chair of School Council / President of Casino fundraising
