Welcome to Braeside School

Farewell Message

As the school year winds to a close, I would like to thank all of our families for their continued support of Braeside School.  We have had an incredible year together full of amazing experiences for students.

It is with mixed emotions that I would like to announce that I have accepted a position as the principal of Ethel M. Johnson for the upcoming school year.  It has been an incredible four years here at Braeside, and I have loved working both in this school and in this community.  There is definitely something special about Braeside that is not found at many other schools.  The sense of community within this building is like no other, and students and families are highly supportive of each other.

I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work with both you and your children.  I am honored to have been a part of Braeside School, and I have great pride in what we have accomplished together over the last four years.  I will always look back on my years here with great fondness and incredible memories.

I would like to thank you all for your support, your volunteerism, and for your collaboration.  Together we have worked towards the end goal of making the school a better place for the students within it.  I am confident that with the staff in place at the school, as well as all of our amazing students and families working together, that Braeside will continue to be a truly amazing place.

Mr. Glenn Goslin, who is the current principal of James Short Memorial School, will be taking over as principal of Braeside in the fall.  He comes with a great deal of knowledge and experience, and he is incredibly excited to be joining the amazing community of Braeside.  I will work closely with him over the course of the summer to ensure that it is a smooth transition.

Thank you again for everything. It truly has been an honor working with you, and I hope that our paths cross again soon.

Chris Radu

Canada 150 Celebration

Our Canada 150 celebration was a huge success! Students loved performing folk style music for their families and the community. They enjoyed various creative elements like singing with whole group involvement, singing in two parts, playing various musical instruments, and performing actions and choreography of songs. Students loved that they were able to incorporate humor and make the audience laugh while entertaining them with a variety of instruments, lively music and actions.

The performance celebrated Canada’s geography and development from coast to coast. Some topics included the history of the Acadians, the First Nations People, building the railroad, settlement, and respecting and acknowledging the land. The student learning also included a Ted Harrison inspired mural for each province and area that was created by each class. These large murals also supported the ambiance for the celebration and showcased further student work and evidence of teamwork. A huge thanks to Ms. Lietz for all of her work on this performance.
