We are a 'Modified Calendar' school in 2017-18

The 2017-18 school year will be the first year that we will be on a modified calendar. This means that we have an earlier start to the school year and additional breaks throughout the year.

Grade 1 to 5 students will be starting on Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2017. Kindergarten student will follow a staggered entry and start school on Aug. 15, 16 or 17. Call us at 403-777-8190 (after Aug. 10) if you do not know your child's start date. There will be no school for Kindergarten on Aug. 18.

For the standard dates see the CBE 2017-2018 Modified Calendar. Dates specific to our school will be posted at a later date.

School Hours for 2017-18

Our school hours are staying the same for the 2017-18 school year. Find the hours in our Back to School summary or Calendar webpage.

Adventures Childcare

The CBE does not operate daycare or before and after school (out of school) programs. A before and after school care program is being offered by Adventures Childcare, a third-party operator, in our school.

  • Open for the new modified schedule on Aug. 15, 2017.
  • Hours of operation are listed in the 2017-18 flyer.
  • Closed Dec. 25-29, 2017. Open Jan. 2–5 and 8-12, 2018
  • Program Director Kimberly Allen will be going on maternity leave (Best wishes Kim!) and be replaced by Alexander Ayer (Welcome Alex!)
  • This Adventures Childcare is available only to children attending Marlborough School.
  • Adventures Child Care is separate from Marlborough School and Calgary Board of Education.

To learn more or register, see the 2017-18 flyer or visit Call Adventures at 403-483-1272.

Reminder | Construction Items

The Learning Commons is going through some changes and still requires construction items. There are areas set up so the students will be able to create and construct items to help with their learning. Collect and send the articles to school with your children or drop off at the office. Craft supplies and any other safe items to create things with would be good. For example: magazines - popsicle sticks - nuts/bolts/screws - bubble wrap.

Late or Absent?

Your child’s safety is of utmost importance to us. A reminder that if a student is arriving to school after the late bell they are directed to come through the front doors of the school and check into the front office. This way no child will be left unattended outside.

If a student is going to be very late or absent please call the school office at 403-777-8190, ext. 1 to inform the office staff. Our Synervoice will continue to send out messages to numbers provided informing you of a child’s absence or late, but this does not occur until after attendance is taken.

If you have any personal information to addresses, phone numbers, contacts, etc., please inform the office so the necessary changes can be made. Having current information is important so parents/guardians can be reached anytime, particularly in the case of an emergency.

Traffic Safety

It is important that all parents/guardians obey the following:

  • Do not drop off or pick up your child in the school parking lot.
  • Do not make U-turns.
  • Respect the 30 km school zone limit.
  • Do not double park.
  • Cross at the designated crosswalk.
  • Follow the direction of the patrollers.
  • Have your child enter through the front doors of the school if arriving after school starts.

Please note that NO PATROLLERS WILL BE OUT DURING THE LUNCH HOUR. If your child requires assistance to cross Maryvale Drive in front of the school, please call the school and arrangements will be made for them to be assisted by staff.

Kindergarten Registration for 2017-2018

Registration for the 2017-18 school year is ongoing. Children must be at least four years old on or before March 1 to start kindergarten in September of the same calendar year. You have to register in person at your school with proof of residence, your child's name, date of birth and citizenship. Visit the CBE Registration page for more information and for the forms you'll need. More information is available on the CBE Kindergarten page.
