Music Monday - May 1

Please join us for this celebration of music on Monday, May 1, at 9:30 AM in the gym here at Marlborough School!

What is Music Monday? It is the world’s largest single event dedicated to raising awareness for music education. Every year, hundreds of thousands of students, educators, and music makers participate in a simultaneous, nationwide concert performance of an original song written by a Canadian artist. This year’s theme is “Sing It Together”, and while we won’t be live-casting during our assembly, we will still be singing it together as a school. Also, our assembly will have a theme of Canada 150, with many Canada-themed songs and performances.

Kernels Popcorn Fundraiser - May 1-18

School Council is ready to kick off the last fundraiser of the year! Since it was such a big hit last year, we will be doing the Kernels popcorn fundraiser again! The fundraiser will kick off on May 1 and order forms are due by May 12.

Orders will be handed out on May 18, just before the long weekend. School Council greatly appreciates your effort and support in our fundraisers. The funds collected from this fundraiser will go towards sports day activities.

School Council Meeting - May 3

If you would like to join Marlborough School Council we meet the first Wednesday of each month at 6 PM in the staff room. The next meeting is May 3, 2017 at 6 PM . It is through the endless dedication of this council and our volunteers that your child’s education is enhanced at the school. Council is a great group of folks who dedicate their time and energy ensuring all students receive optimal learning experiences.

You can find us on Facebook at Marlborough School's Parent Council.

Classroom Lacrosse - May 15-18

We are very excited to be welcoming ELEV8 Lacrosse into the school May 15-18 for Classroom Lacrosse. Each class will have the opportunity to work with high level lacrosse coaches during the PE time, learning all about the important aspects of Canada’s national sport! An Acknowledgment of Risk form will be coming home at the beginning of May requesting consent for your child’s participation. Like swimming lessons, this will be a part of our Physical Education curriculum so please sign and return the form to your child’s teacher as soon as possible. They will not want to miss out on this amazing opportunity! We want to also thank our School Council and all the families who have helped fundraise for this opportunity.

We Day Fundraiser - May 26

Our We Day students are very intent on supporting the We Day goal and their goal of $1000 for 20 students in Ecuador. With the last two fundraisers, Wear a Hat for a Toonie on Friday, May 26, and selling the last few Rafiki Bracelets ($10/each) for the year the We Day students are hoping to celebrate their efforts of making a difference!

Sports Day - June 29

Our School Council is organizing the year end Sports Day on June 29. If there is inclement weather that day the events will occur inside. We are in need of volunteers. If you can volunteer please inform your child’s teacher or the main office. You must have completed a Police Information Check (PIC) in order to volunteer. The PIC can take up to six weeks to obtain.

Reminder | Construction Items

The Learning Commons is going through some changes and still requires construction items. There are areas set up so the students will be able to create and construct items to help with their learning. Collect and send the articles to school with your children or drop off at the office. Craft supplies and any other safe items to create things with would be good. For example: magazines - popsicle sticks - nuts/bolts/screws - bubble wrap.

Late or Absent?

Your child’s safety is of utmost importance to us. A reminder that if a student is arriving to school after the late bell they are directed to come through the front doors of the school and check into the front office. This way no child will be left unattended outside.

If a student is going to be very late or absent please call the school office at 403-777-8190, ext. 1 to inform the office staff. Our Synervoice will continue to send out messages to numbers provided informing you of a child’s absence or late, but this does not occur until after attendance is taken.

If you have any personal information to addresses, phone numbers, contacts, etc., please inform the office so the necessary changes can be made. Having current information is important so parents/guardians can be reached anytime, particularly in the case of an emergency.

Traffic Safety

It is important that all parents/guardians obey the following:

  • Do not drop off or pick up your child in the school parking lot.
  • Do not make U-turns.
  • Respect the 30 km school zone limit.
  • Do not double park.
  • Cross at the designated crosswalk.
  • Follow the direction of the patrollers.
  • Have your child enter through the front doors of the school if arriving after school starts.

Please note that NO PATROLLERS WILL BE OUT DURING THE LUNCH HOUR. If your child requires assistance to cross Maryvale Drive in front of the school, please call the school and arrangements will be made for them to be assisted by staff.
