Valley View School is a Kindergarten to Grade 5 school situated in the community of Dover serving families from Forest Lawn and Dover. In our school we are proud to support the Medicine Wheel Pre-School program and the school has a full day Medicine Wheel Kindergarten and two additional full day Kindergarten programs.
At Valley View School, we believe that learning is natural and to make sure our students learn and are successful we strive to personalize learning opportunities for every student. We value the individual stories that everyone in our building brings to our learning spaces and we purposefully extend literacy in all program inquiries. Literacy represents a lifelong intellectual process of gaining meaning from any source of data embracing cognitive, affective, social emotional, technological and physical aspects of the world.
Our Learning Commons is a great part of our school with an excellent collection of books that represent the diverse cultures in our school. We have a group reading corner, and a large space for making work, engaging in group work, collaboration and inquiry learning. Our large wall murals outside and inside the Learning Commons represent the work we engaged in with a Calgary artist who guided our thoughts and expressions to leave a lasting legacy for all to enjoy.
The school grounds include two playgrounds equipped with climbing areas, swings and slides and our compound has sidewalk games. The rest of our outdoor area is a large beautiful green space which is shared with our neighbouring school.
The school council and parent society (small but mighty!) are very involved and supportive of the students and their learning. Through funding generated by a casino and other events, they have sponsored annual swimming lessons, artists in residence, special shows, and multiple field trips for each class including trips to museums, the Calgary Zoo, the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary, Outdoor School and week-long “school experiences” to name only a few.
As a learning community we embrace diversity in our personalized approach to learning. Our goal is for all students to see, inquire, be confident learners who see themselves as leaders as they set and strive toward their goals.
Live, Learn, Lead.
