Message from CBE:
CBE K-12 Math Strategy Engagement –
Math is a hot topic in the Calgary Board of Education, provincially, nationally and globally. We know success in math is important to our students, parents and community. To help our students succeed in math, the CBE is developing a K-12 math strategy.
During the 2016-17 school year, we are engaging our stakeholders about what they would like us to consider as we create the strategy. This fall we engaged with students, teachers, school administrators, mathematicians and post-secondary instructors, as well as several parent groups to understand their perspectives.
The next step is to hear from you, parents and guardians. We want to understand what is important to you in the teaching and learning of math. We also want to better understand what resources and information you and your children need from us.
You will have two opportunities to participate:
1 In-person engagement sessions: There are five upcoming opportunities for parents to engage in discussions with other parents about math education. There will be a short presentation followed by small group discussions at these meetings. Each session is limited to 100 participants, so please register early. If one session is full, you may register at any of the other sessions.
2 An online survey will be available from Feb. 22 to Mar. 15. We will send you a reminder once the survey is live.
For more information, or to register for an in-person session, please visit our K-12 math strategy page.
Please note: The math curriculum is set by Alberta Education, and we have always worked closely with them to ensure that our work is aligned with their direction in education. Alberta Education is currently leading a redesign of the math curriculum. As new information becomes available about the curriculum, it will also inform our work on the CBE K-12 math strategy.
Let’s work together to support students in math learning.
