Principal's Message | September

“Education is the most powerfull weapon which you can use to change the world.”
-Nelson Mandela

Welcome to the 2017-2018 School year! I trust that everyone has had a wonderful summer break! For me and my family it was a time to reconnect with each other and with nature. We spent most of the summer on a lake, either Lake of the Woods in Ontario or Clear Lake in Manitoba. I feel refreshed, rejevunated and ready for all the wonderful possibilities of a new school year!

The staff has been in for several days already working really hard to prepare for the arrival of all our wonderful students! We have had the opportunity to learn together about mindfulness and taking care of each and our community. We are all very grateful for having had the opportunity to participate in an Indigenous Blanket Exercise to further our understanding of our Canadian history and the role we need to play with regards to Truth and Reconciliation and building a better future. If you ever have an opportunity to take part in this exercise we would highly recommend it – all Canadians should take part! We are welcoming the Bridges class(Grade 1-3) to Cedarbrae this year. Information regarding all CBE Specilazed Settings can be found on the CBE webpage. We are so blessed to have Ms. Gamache returning to Cedrabrae in this position. We are also pleased to welcome Ms. Cindy Urvald as the Behavior Support Worker for the Bridges class. We have two new teachers joining Mr. Dunning to create our Grade 3 & 4 team this year: Ms. Echo and Ms. Wendy. Welcome!

Our numbers are still changing on daily basis so I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that until the September 30th funding deadline it is always a possibility that we may have to make some changes. Know that all changes will be made based on what is best for our learning community. Thank you for your support and patience.

We look forward to meeting all parents and guardians on September 22 during our Parent Information night where teachers will host two information sessions and share materials, routines, general expectations and plans for the first term of the year. Our first set of conferences will take place on September 22. More information will come home closer to those dates.

Thank you again for all of your support,

Kristi Jardine, Principal
