Time Changes for 2008 - 2009 School Year

We will be making changes to our times for the 2008 -2009 school year. We feel it is important to make this change in order to provide professional learning time and team planning time every Friday afternoon for staff versus select days chosen at varoius times throughout the school year. Therefore, students will be dismissed at 11:55 every Friday. These times have been worked out with our bus partner school, H.D. Cartwright, and the Community Engagement and Planning and Transportation Department.

The following times are scheduled for the fall of 2008:

Grade 1 - 6

Monday - Thursday
8:40 - 12:00
1:00 - 3:35

Friday
8:40 - 11:55

Kindergarten

Monday - Thursday
8:40 - 11:30 (AM) 12:45 - 3:35 (PM)

Friday
8:40 - 11:55 (Alternating AM and PM classes each week)

School Council in conjuction with the administration saw this change as beneficial to both parents and school in that it provided a consistent day/time for children to be off school. In consultation with School Council potential issues were discussed such as day care an the Y Program. In response to these concerns we were able to confirm with the day homes across the street that they could accomodate these Friday afernoons. The Y Program will be running a new program at West Dalhousie School and Y Program students will receive a notice today for further information about the changes for next year.

We appreciate your support with this change for next year as we continue to be creative in seeking opportunities to best meet your child's learning needs.

Sincerely,

West Dalhousie Staff

Weather Advisory

High wind-chills may affect your children when walking to school

When wind-chill warnings are issued by Environment Canada, parents/guardians are strongly cautioned as to the following:

  • Children should be well prepared for extreme cold and not left unattended at bus stops for any period of time, under any circumstances.
  • Parents/guardians should provide alternate arrangements for their child(ren) that provide timely shelter, if required (e.g., a neighbour who will be at home during the day).
  • If parents/guardians cannot ensure the safety of their children to and from school the child should be kept at home or other arrangements made for the daily supervision of the child.
  • All CBE schools will remain open to provide a safe, warm and secure environment for attending students.

The CBE and its chartered bus carriers continually monitor weather situations for developments and will keep parents/guardians and media informed of any decisions.

Please check the My School Bus Monitor website daily to be aware of delays.
