Siakaluk's Summary | November

Dear G. W. Skene Families,

October has been a busy month! We were able to celebrate Thanksgiving and Halloween, as well as many other activities. Thank you to everyone who came out to our family dance on October 26. It was a huge success and the feedback was great. Thank you to the parents who volunteered their time to make popcorn for the dance. And thank you to the G. W. Skene Ambassadors who gave up their time to help fundraise during the dance.

Room 5 spent the last week of October learning about our legal system and participated in a mock trial. They had a wonderful experience of attending a courthouse downtown to see how the legal system works in our great country. Many other classes will be participating in field trips during the next few months and these are great opportunities for authentic and engaging learning to take place. We rely on parents to help volunteer for these field trips. If you are not yet set up as a volunteer please come to our main office and speak with Ms. Siarkowski.

November is a special month as we celebrate Remembrance Day. Our assembly will be on Friday, November 10 at 10:45 am. All are invited to attend. We will also have Parent/Teacher Conferences again and encourage all parents to attend. Booking will be done the same way as in September. All parents must have a My CBE Account to register for conferences.

Report cards will be sent home on December 21 and will provide you with fantastic information about your child’s learning. Please take the necessary time to review the report card with your child and read the teacher comments together. These comments, very specifically, outline the areas of strength, the areas of further development, and the supports provided at the school.

Please also remember to attend our School Council Meetings. The next meeting is on Thursday, November 23 at 6:30 pm in the G. W. Skene Learning Commons. We are moving the meeting to a later time in order to better accommodate parents’ work schedules. We appreciate and value your feedback during these council meetings.

Thank you for all of your support with the learning that takes place here. G. W. Skene truly is an amazing school in a wonderful community. We look forward to 2018!

Kind regards,

Derek Siakaluk
