About Our School

The staff of West Dover School extends a warm welcome to all students and parents. It is our goal to work with families to provide a positive learning environment with a focus on learning through the arts. In partnership with parents, we can provide experiences and opportunities that will establish a firm educational foundation for our children to carry forward for the rest of their lives.

Today’s children are our society’s future. We need citizens who are knowledgeable about their own potential and who see the potential in each other. We need citizens who can respond to change, who can represent their understanding in a wide variety of ways and who are able to communicate effectively. We believe in the sharing of ideas and in building relationships that are collaborative and respectful. We believe in the importance of working together on behalf of children.

We welcome your children to school and look forward to a wonderful year of working and learning together.

Special Features of West Dover School

Infusing the Arts
At West Dover School we believe in approaching curriculum through a focus on the arts. At our school you will see artists working with staff and students to link ideas, concepts and questions to an art form or project. This offers children the opportunity to learn in a variety of ways and to develop their abilities to problem solve, think creatively and critically, communicate clearly and work collaboratively. Please look for examples of our work on the school bulletin boards, in the hallways and in the gallery in the front hall.

Circle of Courage & Resiliency
At West Dover School we base of our work on the Circle of Courage philosophy and focus on building a community with strong relationships. The Circle of Courage integrates the best of western educational thought with the wisdom of Native American culture. The four virtues of the Circle are Belonging, Mastery, Independence, and Generosity. When we meet the needs of children in all four areas, schools become empowering places where serious learning takes place. Our goal is to ensure that our students experience belonging, mastery, independence and generosity at West Dover and thereby become increasingly able to take advantage of both the challenges and opportunities they will experience throughout their lives.

The Circle is a sacred symbol of life… individual parts within the circle connect with each other; and therefore what happens to one part of the circle affects all within the circle.
