Welcome to Haultain Memorial School

Message from Administration | February

In December, you may have noticed and wondered about the Acknowledgement of the Land we read before our Winter concert performance:

We would like to acknowledge the traditional territories and oral practices of the Blackfoot Nations, which includes the Siksika (Seeg-see-gah), the Piikani (Bee-gah-nee), and the Kainai (Guy-nah). We also acknowledge the Tsuut’ina (Soot—tenna) and Stoney Nakoda (Na-ko-da) First Nations, the Métis Nation (Region 3), and all people who make their homes in the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta.

This acknowledgement, which every CBE school will read before each significant gathering, demonstrates our commitment to work together as a community for reconciliation through education. It signals a shift in education in Alberta and across Canada to provide education to public servants on the history of aboriginal peoples, and for age-appropriate curriculum on residential schools and indigenous history.
