Students and staff at Haultain
Memorial School recognize that great citizens have a responsible,
thoughtful and respectful presence about them. Great citizens recognize
the challenges they face in their daily lives as valuable opportunities
to practice their virtues.
Our students and staff are working together, helping each other,
and encouraging each other in our individual efforts to develop
our own characters. We all have natural instincts that guide us
to make appropriate choices. To be the best that we can be, it is
helpful when we can share our thoughts and ideas about good citizenship
with others.
The Virtues Program at Haultain is now in its fourth year and we
are embracing some new ideas. In previous years, we have based our
program primarily upon the book, The Virtues Project, written by
Linda Kavelin Popov. This year, we will also embrace the Three Pillars
of Care: Care for Self, Care for Others, Care for this Place. The
Pillars provide a framework for the many virtues we work on daily
in our classrooms.
Throughout the year, selected virtues will be emphasized or put
in the "spotlight". This will provide additional opportunities
for staff and students to be engaged in meaningful activities as
a whole school community. Together, we will strive to “walk
the talk”.
At Haultain Memorial School, the Virtues Program guides our work
everyday.
