Dear Members of the Sunalta School Community,
I am Chris Aylesworth, principal of Sunalta School. During the last year as principal and five years as assistant principal I have been able to really know the school community. It is a place much grander than the sum of its parts thanks to committed teachers, involved parents and a rich, diverse student body. With Sunalta School’s storied tradition and the support of the Calgary Board of Education, the 2008-2009 school year is filled with promise.
My formal education includes a Bachelor of Arts Degree, a Bachelor of Education Degree specializing in elementary education, and a Master of Arts Degree focusing on leadership and curriculum. During my 26 years as an educator, I have been a vice-principal, assistant principal and classroom teacher. I received a provincial Excellence in Teaching Award in 2005, which was one of the highlights of my career. All of us at Sunalta are committed to excellence and ongoing professional development.
As a principal, teacher and parent, I am keenly aware of the importance of striving to meet the individual needs of children in a diverse student population. Celebrating uniqueness and tapping into individual student potential is one of the hallmarks of a Sunalta education that is highly valued. This will continue to be reflected in our classrooms, extra-curricular activities and community service initiatives. I am committed to the Calgary Board of Education’s goals of student academic success, character development, citizenship and personal development.
I look forward to working with Sunalta School’s community this year.
Sincerely,
Chris Aylesworth,
Principal
Sunalta School
