2016-17 Kindergarten at Beddington Heights School
Registration for 2016-17 Kindergarten started on January 11, 2016
What is Kindergarten?
Kindergarten addresses all dimensions of a child’s development. It builds upon what children have already learned in their home and community settings. In Kindergarten, children explore and experiment with their environment and learn how to interact with others. This helps them to value themselves as capable and competent learners. The program offers children opportunities to:
• develop skills in language arts, science, mathematics, social studies and the fine arts
• develop decision-making skills
• enhance personal and social responsibility
• communicate effectively
• demonstrate their knowledge in different ways
Our Kindergarten program is half-day, offered either in the morning or in the afternoon.
How old should my child be to attend Kindergarten?
A child who was born before March 1, 2012 can attend Kindergarten in September, 2016. Kindergarten is an optional program but children must start school if they are six years old as of September 1.
How do I register my child for Kindergarten?
Come in to the Beddington Heights School office as soon as possible to register your child. You will need to provide proof of your child’s name, date of birth, and citizenship. Only the following documents are accepted:
• Birth Certificate
• Canadian Citizenship Certificate
Proof of home residence (rental agreement, official bill, etc)
If your child is not a Canadian citizen, you must register through the Admissions Office at Kingsland Centre first. Call 403-777-7373 to make an appointment.
You will also need to bring information that confirms your address (e.g. a driver’s license).
Is transportation provided?
Two-way transportation may be available depending on your home address. Check with us at the school for more information. If you qualify for transportation you should take advantage of the First Ride Program.
How can I be involved in my child’s school?
Volunteer in the classroom or become a member of the School Council. Research shows that if parents are involved in the school, children learn better.
