Principal Message

We hope that everyone has enjoyed a wonderful summer break. On Tuesday, August 16 we welcome back our students and their families to another year of learning! For those families new to Abbeydale School, WELCOME!

Teachers are in the process of calling students to welcome them to their class and advise them of our 8:15 start time and a meeting spot at the entry bell. If you have not heard from your child’s teacher by Monday afternoon, please contact us in the office, stop by the school or see myself or Mrs. Belcher on Tuesday morning outside, and we will assist you.

Tuesday at 8:00 am, join staff out in our playground compound for coffee and muffins and a chance to reconnect with staff, families and friends. If you are new to Abbeydale School it is our pleasure to help you connect with your child’s teacher.

We have a number of new staff joining us this year. Each new staff member comes to us with many talents and gifts to share with our students. We look forward to the richness and rigour of their contributions to learning and our community. Please take time to introduce yourself and welcome the following teachers:

  • Ms. Janay Paul – Kindergarten
  • Ms. Shazia Rajan – Grade One
  • Ms. Amanda Wilson – Grade Two
  • Ms. Meagan Song – Grade Three
  • Mr. Clayton Bergman – Grade Three
  • Mrs. Joanna Wambura – Grade Four
  • Ms. Erin Retallack – Grade Five

All students who intend to stay for lunch this year will need to be registered. Noon supervision registration is required regardless of method or time frame of payment schedules or waivers. Registration, payment and waiver application can be done online at http://www.cbe.ab.ca/registration/fees-and-waivers/Pages/default.aspx

Abbeydale School participates in High Performance Rodeo

Grade 5 students from Abbeydale School participated in a performance of Haircuts by Children on January 30 and 31, 2016 as part of High Performance Rodeo.  Assuming the various roles required to run a successful business, in this case a hair salon, students learned the importance of teamwork, commitment and relationships in the presence of the work. The performance tests our willingness to trust the younger generation and creates a unique opportunity for different social groups to interact in an unexpected way.
Nevaeh and Kayley spoke of the experience on Global Morning News.
