CBE Innovative Showcase ~ 2009
In the New Year students from Olympic Heights were invited to share their understanding about renewable energies through the GEN E Wind ENERGY Project at the CBE’s Innovation Showcase held at Mount Royal College. Liam and Katy were wonderful representatives who were eager and confident in their understanding about wind energy and the GEN E site. Many guests from various partnerships with the Calgary Board of Education visited the display, and asked questions pertaining to our Skystream 3.7 micro wind turbine and the GEN E pilot project.
ENMAX SHOWCASE – 2009
In May, participating school representatives in the ENMAX renewable energy GEN-E program and our Wind Energy Project, met and eagerly shared their innovative inquiry projects regarding their latest forms of installed renewable energy. Student representatives, Ty and Shania, from Olympic Heights School in Grades 3 and 6, attended this exciting and vibrant ENMAX Showcase and enthusiastically shared their knowledge and insights about wind energy with their peers, ENMAX, CBE and CSSD employees.
Mayor’s Environmental Expo ~ 2009
In June Olympic Heights School was one of thirteen participating SHOWCASE Schools at the 2009 Mayor’s Environmental Expo held at the City of Calgary Municipal Building. Students from Mr. Innes’ grade five class showcased the school’s Wind Energy Project, as well as demonstrated their personal hand built solar / wind energy cars.
Hundreds of Calgary school children, visitors and special guests visited the Olympic Heights display asking questions and marveling at the children’s’ confidence and knowledge that these children demonstrated about understanding renewable energies. Special hosts Mayor Dave Bronconnier and former Mayor Al Duerr were impressed with the children’s ingenuity, creativity and understanding of how a wind turbine, solar and other renewable energies operate.
Thank you to the CBE / ENMAX Partnership for this valuable opportunity for
teaching and learning about renewable energy technologies!
