Royal Oak School is located in the North West quadrant of the city and serves the communities of Royal Oak and Rocky Ridge. The school was opened with great excitement in September 2011. It has a current enrollment of 529 students, Kindergarten to Grade 4. Royal Oak School strives to be a highly regarded example of personalized elementary education for today’s and tomorrow’s learner. The school embodies the values of the Calgary Board of Education and designs instruction to align with the goals of the CBE’s 3 year Education Plan. In doing so, students will be well prepared for their own successful futures. http://www.cbe.ab.ca/aboutus/3yrplan.asp.
In order to accommodate the growing number of school age children in Rocky Ridge and Royal Oak, the school community was involved in an accommodation process to determine the future school designation and registration eligibility. In December of 2011, it was determined that until further notice Royal Oak School will remain a Kindergarten to Grade 4 setting with a capped enrollment of 550 students. As such, ongoing grade level enrollment will be capped annually at an average of 110 students per grade beginning in Kindergarten, 2012 and then into Kindergarten and grade one for 2013, etc. Students that cannot be accommodated at Royal Oak School are designated to Belvedere Parkway School, http://schools.cbe.ab.ca/b110/. Additional information about this school accommodation/designation process is available on the school website or by contacting the school office.
Kindergarten registration is currently set at 100 students per year. Eligible kindergarten students with siblings in Royal Oak School or in its middle school feeder, Simon Fraser School, have priority acceptance into the kindergarten program. A registration lottery/draw is currently held in mid-February to determine acceptance into the remaining kindergarten spaces. Students that cannot be accommodated at Royal Oak School at that time are designated to Belvedere Parkway School and are welcome to have their names added to a wait list for Royal Oak School.
A similar priority placement practices used to determine kindergarten enrollment will be in effect for grade one students that attend another CBE Kindergarten program, attend a private Kindergarten program or that do not choose to attend a Kindergarten program.
- first priority will be given to resident students currently enrolled in Kindergarten at Royal Oak school
- second priority will be given to the younger siblings of Calgary Board of Education resident students who are enrolled at the school, program or special education program
- third priority will be to resident students on the wait list
**Enrollment practices are reviewed annually with the Area Director and adjusted to maintain optimum learning conditions across all grades. (Please see Calgary Board of Education Administrative Regulation 6091 for more information about student admissions)
