Message from Administration | Decmeber/January

Dear Parents/Guardians:

On behalf of all of the students, parents and staff, we would like to sincerely thank our School Council and School Society for the tremendous effort they have put forth in the construction our new school playground. Our School Council, School Society and members of the community joined us during the Oct. 31st assembly where we thanked the community for all of their efforts in making the playgroundnd a reality. We opened our playground to students during the first week of November. Our students have been very excited and have continually expressed how much they enjoy the new playground.

Staffing Updates
We have had several staffing changes at Saddle Ridge School since school started. We would like to welcome our new Assistant Principal, Mr. Shane Turner, to Saddle Ridge School. Mr. Turner is very excited to be at Saddle Ridge School and brings a wealth of knowledge to our school including expertise in mathematics, science and technology. In addition, we would like to welcome Ms. Nosheen Hussien to the Grade Three teaching team. She replaces Ms. Anita Chaudhary who is working with our teachers and students in the Learning Commons as part of our discipline-based inquiry work. We would also like to wish all the best to Ms. MacEachern, one of our literacy teachers, who will be going on maternity leave. We welcome Ms. Lindsey McBride who will be assuming her teaching position for the remainder of the year.

Parent Teacher Conferences/Report Cards
Our second Parent/Teacher Conferences are being held on December 7 & 8. Students and teachers have been very busy getting ready for the conferences. This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to share his or her goals and successes for this past term. Our term one report cards will be sent home on January 11, 2018.

Our Grade One and Two students are very excited to perform in their upcoming Winter Concert, “The Littlest Reindeer”. The Grade 2 concert will take place on Tuesday, December 12th with a dress rehearsal at 9:00 a.m. and the performance at 6:30 p.m. The Grade 1 concert will take place on Thursday, December 14th with a dress rehearsal at 1:00 p.m. and the performance at 6:30 p.m. Our Kindergarten, Grade 3 and Grade 4 students will perform in the spring.

School Development Plan and School Results
Each year the school develops a School Development Plan (SDP) to help set learning priorities for the school. Our school development achievement goal is to increase student achievement in reading comprehension across the curriculum. Our Learning Leaders and Teachers work together to provide daily literacy instruction using high-impact literacy strategies, as well as, using a discipline-based inquiry approach to learning to further build reading comprehension. Our School Development Plan is available on our school website under the school information and publications section.
