Mr. van Rootselaar
Mr. van Rootselaar is originally a farm boy from Northern Alberta, growing up near a town called Spirit River. While in high school he was a member of the first Canadian High School Boys basketball team to tour and play against all-star teams in Australia. After high school he attended the University of Lethbridge and along with studies in the Faculty of Education, he played a little basketball and then ran on the Track team competing in the National Cross-country championship. During his years in Lethbridge he also spent a year in the business program at Lethbridge Community College. Mr. van followed this up by completing a year of graduate studies at the University of Calgary in Education Administration.
In the "2" years since his university studies he has taught grades 3-6 at five different schools, was presented a Pan Canadian Student's Choice award, was the Pro Shop Manager at Allred's Golf School, worked as a Realtor, is a limited partner with River Spirit Golf Club, created a new golf putter, applied for a patent on a painter's tool and has many other ideas ready to go! He would love to be premier of Alberta but isn't sure he has enough time!
He lives in Lakeview with his wife Ligia and they enjoy being close to the pathways in and around Glenmore Park. He has many other secrets but you'll have to ask him to find out. ;-)
Hi! My name is Karen Sloane. I am a grade one/two teacher at Cranston school and have been teaching for 12 years. I am the mother of two wonderful little girls, Makenzie and Morgan. I have a mini schnauzer dog named Tucker whom I also love dearly. I grew up in a small town in Manitoba and have been living here since 2006. I have an avid love for sports: golf, hockey, soccer, rollerblading, yoga and ringette. This will definitely age me..... but believe it or not, I went to the Canada Winter Games for ringette in 1991!!!! In my spare time, I am always doing fun and adventurous things with my family.

Hi my name is Mr. McDougall and I have been teaching for a wonderful eleven years. In 1989 I moved to the amazing city of Calgary and completed my Bachelor of Physical Education and then explored my passion for travel on an adventure, which took me to Hawaii, Fiji, New Zealand and Australia. My desire to travel eventually took me to Japan where I taught English as a second language for just over a year. When I returned I knew that teaching was for me and lead me to obtaining my Bachelor of Education also at the University of Calgary. Very early on in my teaching career I decided that I wanted to learn more and possibly open future doors so I enrolled and completed my Masters Degree in Education Technology while I taught. I have worked with students from grades 1-6 in a variety of schools and have held a system position based downtown in further developing web based tools for students and teachers.
I am also the proud father of a 3yr old daughter and an 11yr old son and have a wife Riana who is also a teacher! School never ends in our house!
In my off time I enjoy exercising and when the weather and the time allows it I take any chance I can get to go golfing, but don’t worry there isn’t any chance I’ll be turning pro anytime soon so you’ll see me around! I am looking forward to a new and exciting year working with all our students and families.
Lorraine Kinsman loves children, learning, pets, travel and anything that is not boring or been done before! She has been teaching for 25 years and is currently pursuing a PhD in reading at the University of Alberta. Lorraine loves questions and the process of seeking answers ☺ Married to Mike for 34 years, they have five children (Nakia, Kent, Kate, Karlie and Nick) and six grandchildren (Grace, Jack, Ellery, Clark, Sydney and Bennett), a Golden Retriever named Clancy and two cats, brothers named Poppy and Angus. They are frequently the source of her many stories – much to their chagrin! Lorraine is originally from Nova Scotia and believes the world may have originated there ☺ She loves maps but is a terrible navigator who always turns left instinctively, regardless of what the GPS says. She is an avid reader with an extraordinarily large book collection and a husband who is quite used to building endless bookshelves to accommodate them. She believes life is a grand adventure that should be shared with as many children, family, good friends and animals as possible at every possible moment ☺☺
