Louise Dean Centre is a schooling program for pregnant and parenting teens. The school currently operates with a September to June traditional program along with a six-week summer school component. To support the young women while they are at Louise Dean Centre, a team consisting of an educator, a social worker, and a health professional works with them to improve academic achievement, social/emotional concerns, and healthy lifestyle choices for themselves and their babies. Courses OfferedSee courses. Students are able to select from a range of core and complimentary subjects during each reporting period. Courses not available at Louise Dean Centre may be accessed through our partnership with Chinook College.
A spacious library, well stocked with books, magazines, daily newspaper and audio-visual materials serves this school. The library is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00p.m. At Louise Dean Centre we strive to provide our students with the most up to date technology available.
OTHER FEATURES THAT MAKE OUR CENTRE A UNIQUE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT Dr. Clara Christie Learning Centre Catholic Family Service operates the Dr. Clara Christie Infant and Toddler Learning Centre, which is a licensed childcare facility. The Learning Centre provides quality care for children in a learning environment and/or assists parenting students in selecting a quality care centre in the community.†† This is a subsidized Centre.† Costs are assessed on a monthly basis and with day care subsidy approval, costs can be reduced.† The Learning Centre is open Monday through Friday.† Weekly workshops are part of the program.
Social Work Counsellors Your Social Work Counselor will be meeting with you on a regular basis and will be making contact with your family and your partner if appropriate. The Social Workers offer both individual and group counseling services.
Health TeamA Nurse will contact you and be available for individual health care counseling. Pre and postnatal classes are offered at the school and constitute one CTS credit. The Health Nurse is available for drop-ins and appointments and also offers special classes and guest speakers. A consulting doctor and a dental hygienist are available monthly.
