Dear Parents and Guardians of Peter Lougheed School;
We have had such an amazing beginning to our Term 2 at Peter Lougheed School!! Over the past two weeks, all our Grade 5 and 6 students participated in a Learn to Swim program sponsored by the YMCA program at the Genesis Centre. One of our big goals of this experience was to promote active living beyond the school, but specifically, provide students with a swimming lesson that builds important life skills for them when around water. Each day, students were able to have a 30 min swimming lesson by a qualified swim instructor as well as 30 mins of a gym activity lead by one of the YMCA staff. Students and staff were very impressed with the whole experience. This is something that we will definitely look into continuing for next year and beyond.
This week, our whole school was alive with ‘Acts of Kindness’. Our Grade 8 Leadership students were instrumental in promoting activities and actions that all students could participate in being positive, kind, respectful and caring to each other. Following along with this theme, we will be recognizing Pink Shirt Day on Wednesday, Feb. 22nd which focusses on promoting an end to bullying in our community.
Updates at Peter Lougheed School you should be aware of:
- Athletics - Basketball Playoffs
- Week of Feb 21st to Feb 24th
- Pink Shirt Day – Supporting an end to bullying
- Grade 7 and 8 Students go to My World Conference
- Feb. 23rd at Genesis Centre
- Ted Harrison Invitational Basketball Tournament – Grade 5 & 6
Next week, approximately 40 students and several staff from Peter Lougheed School will be attending My World Conference at the Genesis Centre. They will be joining students from over 40 CBE schools to learn from local, national and international organizers and activists. Students will be engaged and inspired to “think globally” and develop their sense of community by getting involved in projects with a wide range of impact; from their own school or region all the way up to the larger global community. We are proud of their participation and can’t wait to experience how they will invite and motivate all of us!!
All the best,
Mr. Gord Choate
