Update | Fire at Rideau Park School

Dear parents,

Early yesterday evening we were notified of a fire on the roof of Rideau Park School. Thanks to the quick response of the Calgary Fire Department it was extinguished before causing major damage.

The fire was contained to the roof over the school addition that houses the music room and gymnasium. There was also water damage in the addition. Early reports indicate there is little smoke damage to the school. Thankfully no staff or students were present at the time of the fire.

This is expected to have little to no impact on school opening in September; however, we will know more in the coming days. We are also working to clarify its impact on the flood mitigation work that commenced a few weeks ago.

We will keep parents updated via email and the school website as we find out more information. Thank you for your support.

Flood Mitigation Update June 2017
The Calgary Board of Education is pleased to announce that a successful contractor has been awarded the contract to begin the Flood Mitigation Project at Rideau Park School. We anticipate mobilization to begin by the end of June 2017 and that construction will commence immediately thereafter. Details of the timeline for completion of the project are being determined. All efforts will be made to minimize disruption to classes when school commences in the fall.
Weekly Bulletin | June 26-30

It’s hard to believe that it is the last week of June. It has been a terrific year! I would like to recognize the hard work of the staff of Rideau Park School. Our focus has been to try and be a little bit better every day and I am very proud of the learning that took place in the 2016-2017 school year.

As we look forward to next year there will be some staffing changes. The CBE has had over 500 job postings this month. This has provided opportunities for teachers to seek out new opportunities, promotions and perhaps schools a bit closer to home. The following staff will be leaving us:

Andrea Bell- Midnapore School
Christine McKinnon- Sunalta School
Heather Charles –General leave for a year
Jessica Kaminski- West Ridge School
Lisa Lima- Vincent Massey School
Tyler Gordon- John Ware School

Kayla Lewis- Temporary contract ending (Laurie Paddock to return)

We want to thank these teachers for the work that they have done at Rideau Park School. We wish them well in the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. I know that students will be fortunate to have the opportunity to learn with these excellent individuals.

Staffing for next year continues to be in process. We can announce that Heather Pragnall, Michelle Lee, Carl Pocock, Paul Schmidt and Pamela Blanchard will be joining the team. Kathryn Rocker and Laurie Paddock will be returning. We have not finalized teaching assignments for next year.

Over the summer you will notice that the school is fenced off and that work has begun on flood mitigation. This project involves both building and ground works. When the project is completed the boilers will be moved from the basement to the roof of the music room, the music room and entrance to the gym foyer will be reconfigured, the playground will be shifted and a new sport court will be installed. Project updates and details will be found on our website.

We wish all of the student and families a safe and enjoyable summer!

Thank you for a terrific 2016 – 2017 school year.
