Weekly Update |Apr. 30 - May 4, 2018

While the weather is finally more pleasant and the days are longer, we still have a great deal of learning to complete at Rideau. Getting a good rest and eating healthy are key to success for our students. Please help our kids to finish this last quarter of the year successfully.

Provincial achievement exams begin in grades 6 and 9 on May 10. All students in grade 6 and 9 will be writing the exams. If your child will be absent the day of the exam, please let us know and we will arrange for another date for writing. Please send a letter notifying of dates for the absence and planned date for return. We really appreciate your help with this. Letters will also be required for students who may be missing the June exams. Again, we will arrange a writing time for students who are absent the day of exams.

Our musical is in full swing; please make sure that children are in attendance at rehearsals. Tickets will be on sale beginning May 1.

Thank you for joining us for the Volunteer Tea on Wednesday April 25 and thank you to our elementary teachers and Ms. Hamel for an excellent afternoon of performance and celebration.

Being mentally healthy is important for all of us in the Rideau community. In honour of Mental Health Day, Rideau students are encouraged to wear hats on Wednesday May 2 to represent the importance of taking care of our minds as well as our bodies in sustaining a successful future.

Have a terrific week!

Pink Shirt Day at Rideau Park School

In recognition of Pink Shirt Day and CBE’s commitment to create Welcoming, Caring, Safe and Respectful learning environments and conditions for success for each student, Rideau Park’s GSA members helped to make over 400 sugar cookies in the shape of t-shirts with pink icing.  These were given to all students in order to commemorate Pink Shirt Day and increase awareness of bullying and the importance of standing up against bullying. The members of the GSA then went to elementary classrooms and read to students some books, Worm Loves Worm and Piggy Bunny, from our GSA library. Finally, the school assembled together, with elementary students inviting junior high students to dance to "Stand Up” together.
