Canadian National Mathematics Contest

In April 2014 some of the Grade Five and Six students from Colonel Irvine School participated in the Pythagoras Contest (Grade Six) and Fibonacci Contest (Grade Five) hosted by Canadian National Mathematics Contest Centre. More than 65 000 students from across Canada participated in the contests.

Congratulations to Mandarin students: Jeff Li (Grade Six) and Andy Charlton (Grade Five). They achieved the highest marks and were awarded a Medallion as participants from our school.

Calgary Elementary School Mathematics Contest

Some of our Grade Five and Six students had participated in the third annual Calgary Elementary School Mathematics Contest hosted by Mount Royal University. More than 2000 students from 42 different schools participated in the contest. Out of the top 25 individual winners, six students were from Colonel Irvine.

Congratulations to following students who were honored during the award ceremony on June 16 at the Mount Royal University.

Silver Medals: Andy Charlton (Gr. 5), Jeff Li(Gr. 6), Jarryd Lee (Gr.6), and Johnson Wang (Gr. 6)
Bronze Medals: Ashley O’Neil (Gr. 5) and Mary Long (Gr. 6)

Mandarin student places in Chinese Proficiency Competition

Congratulations to Yina Liu, Mandarin student from Grade 7. She was awarded Second Place in the Alberta “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition on May 31st, 2014. The competition is hosted by the Confucius Institute in Edmonton. All participants are required to compete in three categories: speech, cultural knowledge and a talent show. Her traditional Chinese dance made her stand out from the other Junior High Bilingual students.
