Principal's Message | March
Welcome to the March Newsletter! With the dumping of snow that Calgary has been receiving over the past few weeks, it’s hard to believe that spring is just around the corner.
Thank you to everyone who participated in Pink Shirt Day on February 28. We were pleased to welcome Olympic Hockey player, Danielle Goyette, who shared her story of perseverance in her journey to three Winter Olympics. It was an honour to have her speak to our students!
The past month has been a flurry of activity at Louis. On February 9 we held our annual school Science Fair. We had an outstanding number of entries, with the quality of projects far surpassing those of previous years. We are pleased to have a full team of students taking their projects to the 56th Annual Calgary Youth Science Fair, being held on April 13, 2018. Good Luck to all Louis Scientists!
March is busy month with many field trips for students. These include day and overnight excursions. The grade 9’s leave for 5 days the Bamfield Marine Science Centre on Vancouver Island this week, along with grade 7-9 Bands attending 3 days of camp at Kamp Kindle. Thanks to all parent volunteers and staff members who are attending!
We will be hosting Parent Teacher Conferences on Thursday March 22 (1-8pm) and Friday March 23 (9-2pm). Parents will register for these conferences via MyCBE Account. The conferences will be a combination for Student-Led and individual parent meetings. Further details will be communicated in next Friday’s update. The online booking site will be open to parents on Friday March 16th at 9am.
The staff and students at Louis would like to extend a BIG thank you to School Council for funding so many great projects around the school. Due to fundraising efforts that include The Entrance Improvement Fund, Purdy’s Chocolates, Fun Lunch and, of course, our annual Casino, we have been able to make some “big ticket” purchases for the school. The Learning Commons now has $10,000 worth of new books! Our South Gym now has new BISON mats along the stage, along with new wall mats behind the basketball hoops at the opposite end of the gym. Before the end of the year, we will have our picnic tables installed at the outdoor front entrance, all outdoor railings re-painted and a new message sign on the front lawn. This week, students will also be able to use 75 new ChromeBooks that were partially purchased with School Council funds. THANK YOU!
As always, should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.
