Principal's Message | December

With the start of a new month, we continue our work examining the quality and intention of the tasks we ask students to complete. Our teachers are working together to continually communicate and plan in creating tasks that are authentic, meaningful, engaging, and worthy of our students’ time and attention. Specifically, our teachers are focusing on Reading Comprehension strategies across all grades and disciplines. We hope you are able to see evidence of this through conversations with your child, your child’s homework assignments, and the first report card which will be sent home on January 30.

During the November School Council meeting, my Assistant Principal, Mrs. Bennett, and I shared our school’s annual School Development Plan, as well as information regarding our 2017 Provincial Achievement Test Results. Individual student results profiles have been sent home with all grade 7 students who attended Louis last year. If you have not received yours please contact the office. If your child attended a different school from grade 6, please contact that school directly. A summary of our annual results will be posted on our school website before the Winter break at\b625

Additionally, under the School Information drop down menu, you will find our School Development Plan, which highlights specific achievement and instructional goals for the 2017-18 school year.

Bison Athletics continues to be a strong force in the Calgary Middle Level School Athletic Association. Boys’ and Girls’ basketball try-outs will be taking place shortly after the Winer break for students in grades 6-9. Be sure to check schedules and information regarding PE and Athletics at the Bison website at

Thank you for your support!

On behalf of the entire staff at Louis Riel School, I wish everyone a safe and joyous Christmas and Holiday season. However your family chooses to spend the holidays, we hope that you’ll consider the needs of those less fortunate and share the blessings of the season.

All the best,
