Students in grades 1-4 will be participating in a walking field trip on Wednesday, June 28th to Stanley Park. Students leave Elboya School at 9:00 a.m. and we will walk to Stanley Park. Students will participate in sports day events and eat their lunch at the park before walking back to the school.  Please ensure that you bring a water bottle that day. Apply sunscreen before you come to school and bring comfortable clothing and shoes so that you can fully participate.  We will begin walking back at 12:15 p.m. for an afternoon of regular classes and will dismiss students at the regular dismissal time of 3:30. Kindergarten students will be dismissed following the return to school at 12:30 p.m.

Sports Day – June 29 (Grades 5 – 9)
Students in grades 5 – 9 will be participating in a sports day on Thursday, June 29.  There will be a homeroom period to start the day followed by fun activities.  A light snack will be provided but not a full lunch, so please ensure that you either bring lunch or consider purchasing at the cafeteria that day.  Please also ensure that you bring a water bottle that day. Apply sunscreen before you come to school and bring comfortable clothing and shoes so that you can fully participate.  There will be an early dismissal on Thursday at 1:30 pm. One of the activities is face-painting.  If your child is allergic, please talk to them about opting out as this will be optional.

Patrol News - Ms. Sawchuk
Every year our patrol teams are evaluated by the AMA.  We are pleased to announce that we have received the standard of GOLD for our school.  All students, without exception, have been respectful, kind, engaged, and actively listening to each other.   This is a reflection of the good work being done by our students, producing thoughtful and generous young people that will grow, with fine attributes, into contributing members of society. These are wonderful ambassadors for Elboya. Thank you patrollers for all that you have done this year in keeping Elboya students and parents safe every day!  See you next year!

Me to WE – Mme Lewis – Mme Peverill
As the school year comes to an end, the students of Elboya’s Me to WE club would like to thank all students, parents and teachers for supporting their pillar of Opportunity for Haiti. Students from grades six to nine worked hard all year to reach their goal of fundraising $1000.00. While the students were working towards their global goal, they were also working towards fundraising to help support a better sense of community for Elboya. This past winter, the students wanted to focus on friendship within the school. They decided to raise funds to purchase a Buddy Bench. This bench will provide a spot for students to sit if they are feeling lonely during recess or if they would like to meet new friends. The Me to WE club is aiming to have this bench installed in the fall, when we return for classes. Stay tuned for the unveiling of Elboya’s Buddy Bench!

Lost and Found
Please ask your child to look through the lost and found items sometime this week. Parents are also welcome to view them. Thanks!  We will be packing up the lost and found on June 28 and donating what remains to a local charity.

APEGA Science Olympics

On Saturday, May 27th, two teams from Elboya competed in the APEGA Science Olympics held at the Winsport Arena. Team members were selected from the Elboya Science clubs that were started this year. Competitors were judged on a work-at-home challenge, which they have been working on over the past few months, and mystery challenges at the event. Challenges included building a water filtration system, building a kite that could drop a payload on a target, and preventing erosion in a flood event. Both our grades 5/6 team and our 7-9 team received enough points to win silver awards. Congratulations to our 10 participants on a job well done!

Grade 5/6 Team: Louisa D., William W., Zoe N., Bérénice R., Patrick D
