Welcome back to our returning students and to our new Dr. Oakley students. The first weeks of school are an exciting time for students and staff. We have been busy getting to know each other, learning the routines of classes and just getting back in the groove after summer holidays. Everyone at Dr. Oakley is off to a great start!
This year we have 155 students, organized into 8 teaching and learning communities (colour teams) with two teachers. Each student will have a ‘responsibility’ teacher who will develop the student’s Individualized Program Plan (IPP) over the coming weeks. Although within the team both teachers have instructional responsibilities for all students in their learning communities. Students are fortunate to all be supported by our physical education teacher, Ms. Charlee Wray, Learning Leaders and an Educational Assistant, Ms. Arjeta Devolli.
Our Principal, Mrs. O’Brien-Cusano, will be away on a leave until October 1. During this time, I have been appointed Acting Principal of Dr. Oakley. We are very fortunate to have a incredibly strong Learning Leader team and Administration supporting the work in the office during this time.
We are very excited to welcome to our Dr. Oakley staff Ms. Marnee Somers, who will be teaching in Purple Team. Ms. Tammy Gregan (Teal Team) and Ms. Melissa Rowbotham (Red Team) have returned to Dr. Oakley this year while Ms. Carissa Kozelj and Ms. Kayla Young are on maternity leave. Ms. Monica Swityk (Yellow Team) has returned to our school to cover Ms. Gayle Reid’s medical leave.
We have had a great beginning to the new school year and look forward to continuing to work together.
Stephanie Jones, Acting Principal
