| Frequently Asked Questions - High School Registration |

| Your child’s term 2 marks will be used to determine the core subjects for grade 10. Your child will be placed in the perspective class. The general guidelines are as follows. Depending on the high school, the guidelines may be a little bit different. Please see the course registration guide for the specifics. |
English 9 |
- greater than 80% - English 10 AP (application process)
- 64-80% - English 10-1
- less than 65% - English 10-2
- Referral – English 10-4 (K&E)

Math 9
|
- Grade 10’s will be able to take the Math 10-C course (formerly grade 10 pure and applied math) and must meet the minimum requirements of 50% (mark will be derived from the averages of the student’s tests and quizzes). Math 10-3 will be available for students who do not pass math with a 50% on tests and quizzes. There are opportunities to upgrade.

Science 9
|
- greater than 80% - Science 10AP (application process and must show evidence of strong math skills)
- 50-79% - Science 10 (Should be taking Applied 10 Math as well or higher)
- less than 50% - Science 14

Social Studies 9
|
- greater than 80% - Social Studies 10-1AP (application process)
- 65-79% - Social Studies 10-1
- less than 65% - Social Studies 10-2
- Referral – Social Studies 10-4 (K&E)

| Keep in mind that the final mark will really decide what class the student goes into. If it changes at the end of the year, YOU MUST notify the guidance counsellor (Ms. Nowicki) and the high school will be notified. |
