School council does not need you to join – but your child might…

Did you know that the average attendance at school council is approximately 12 people? That includes Mr. Bushell and the council representatives. What does this mean if you do not attend?

  • Major decisions on your child’s school are out of your hands
  • Funding is being allocated without your say
  • Opportunities to share your opinion are lost
  • Your influence on what happens in this school is absent
  • Your vote on important decisions is uncounted
  • Your voice as a representative of your child is unheard.

What you may not know: School Council is a great way for you to meet and become part of the parent community of Georges P. Vanier. You are already a member. Meetings are listed below on the website. We laugh a lot and accomplish a lot but council respect your time and stick to the agenda. We understand how busy life can be, so we only ask that you make as many meetings as you can, respecting and supporting when you can’t. As an active member of parent council, you can make a difference in your child’s educational experience.

We can do better than ten people. It is up to you to make that happen. If you choose not to, think of what you and your child are giving up.

Your School Council will require new members for all positions in 2016 - 2017 school year, elections are held in September of the school year. Your School Council is a vital part of your school community and it’s recommended that you attend the rest of the School Council meetings to become familiar with council’s activities. Members are willing to provide information and guidance on their responsibilities.
