Grade 6 Podcasts
In Humanities class, the grade 6 students have been working to create podcasts in which they discuss a number of different Newbery Award winning novels. The finished products can be heard here.
The First Annual My World Conference was held in 2009 and was organized by a small group of teachers and principals who wanted to inspire student leaders to make a difference. Student leaders from twenty four schools attended the initial My World Conference. Throughout the past seven years, the conference has provided more than seven thousand students the opportunity to come together and celebrate the amazing work locally and globally to support vulnerable populations. In alignment with Me to We and Free the Children, over the past seven years the conference has included inspiring Me to We speakers Craig Kielburger, Molly Burke, Robyn Wiszowaty, Spencer West, Scott Hamel, Louise Kent, and other inspiring guests Ishmael Beah, Jessi Cruickshank, and Rob Nash. The conference continues to inform the next generation of leaders to support vulnerable populations locally, nationally and globally. Students are introduced to NGOs and nonprofit organizations through workshops and informational booths. The My World Conference continues to inspire Calgary Board of Education students to act with compassion and lead with their hearts. This year's Keynote Speakers include Wab Kinew and Ashley Murphy.
This year, on Feb 25th, the 8th annual My World Conference will be held at the Genesis Center. If you are interested please fill out the My World Ballot form to nominate yourself. Teachers will also be given nomination forms to nominate positive leaders in our school. All entries must be in the draw box which can be found in library by Jan 29th. At the end of the month, we will draw 30 lucky names!
