Simon Fraser School students and staff are very proud of our Peace Initiatives Program. As described by our principal, Mr. Bruce Johnston, it is "...a comprehensive anti-harassment program involving student workshops and conferences, guest speakers, performances, staff development, home room activities and trips."
In September, Simon Fraser students and staff began the year by planning and implementing a two day "Peace Initiatives Kick-Off". These two days included time to work together, with the goal of developing our understanding of ways that students could treat others in our school and our community. The program is ongoing, with new activities occurring each month, under the guidance of the homeroom teachers.
The Peace Initiatives program, developed here at Simon Fraser to meet the needs of our students, has been recognized with the prestigious YMCA Peace Medal Award (November, 2004), and by Peaceful Schools International (February, 2005).
