February Principal's Message

February promises to be an even shorter month than usual as staff and students prepare for our move into our new building.  Over the course of this month, staff will begin the process of packing up at David Thompson and moving into our new building.  It is our intent to make this move as least disruptive as possible but it is quite probable that students will have a higher number of substitute teachers over the last two weeks of February as teachers prepare to move. Friday, March 3 has been declared as an extra non-instructional day so that staff can have that time to organize for the arrival of students on Monday, March 6.

Please note that upon moving into our new building, our hours of operation will shift to school starting at 9:00 a.m. and ending at 3:47 p.m., Monday through Thursday, with Friday dismissal at 1 p.m.  Over the course of the next two months, we will be in need of volunteers who can help us as we get settled.  If you are able and willing, please contact Ms. Van Heurn in our school office at  Thank you in advance!

McKenzie Highlands School Opening

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I am excited to confirm that our new school will open on Mar. 6, 2017. Students will remain in the same classes with the teachers and classmates that they’ve had since the beginning of the year.

Friday, Mar. 3 will be a non-instructional day. We will use this day to organize the supplies and materials and prepare classrooms for our opening day on March 6.

School Hours
School hours will be changing to the following:
9 a.m. Start
3:47 p.m. Dismissal (Monday through Thursday)
1 p.m. Dismissal on Fridays.

Only students who live outside of the school’s walk zone will be eligible for transportation to the new school. Information on the walk zone can be found on our website. New route maps for students who will continue to take the bus will be available before the end of February on the Find My Bus Route webpage.

Please fill out the Request to Cancel School Bus Transportation form as soon as possible ONLY if your child is eligible for transportation to the new school, but will NOT take the bus. Transportation contracts for students living in the walk zone will automatically be cancelled.

If you have any questions regarding transportation please contact CBE Transportation at 403-817-7433 or

Noon Supervision
Students who live within the walk zone and will stay for lunch at the new school will need to re-register for noon supervision. After Feb. 28, please visit your My CBE Account to re-register. Students who are continuing to take the bus do not need to re-register.
