Dr. Gordon Higgins Band Fundraiser (pdf)

Principal's Message | November

Hello Students, Parents and Guardians;

We have had a great start-up to the 2017-2018 school year. I am delighted to be back at Dr. Gordon Higgins School serving as your principal. Dr. Gordon Higgins School is an exciting place to be and we have many activities happening. This year we have grown to almost 500 students and are organized into six Grade 7 classes, five Grade 8 classes, five Grade 9 classes and 2 multi-leveled classes. With additional funding from the Classroom Improvement Fund (CIF Grant) we are welcoming Ms. Jade Cowan to our staff on Monday October 30th. She has been assigned to Humanities 8-3 and ELL, PE 9-2 and PE 7-6. Welcome to Dr. Gordon Higgins School.

We invite you to join us for our annual Remembrance Day Assembly on November 10th at 10:30 am. As well, please join us for Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences on November 23rd 1:00- 3:30PM and 24th 9:00-12:00 AM. Families are encouraged to check the website main page for upcoming events at

Parents and guardians play a vital role in the learning, growth, and development of their student. On-going communication between home and school is crucial to student achievement and success. We encourage parents and guardians to contact the school and staff as needed and check their student’s progress with Home Logic. Voice mail or text messages are sent home on a fairly regular basis. To sign up, look at the Dr. Gordon Higgins website main page, scroll to the bottom of the page to “Don’t Miss Out on School Messages”, click on the blue writing that says subscribe online and register to receive messages.

We have 6 school buses that arrive at our school twice a day. This creates considerable congestion in front of the school. Our primary concern is for the safety of students. I would ask parents who drive students to school to not stop or park anywhere near the front of the school. If you are dropping off a student, please drive to the corner. As well, do not allow your student to walk across the street between busses to get to your car. This is a major safety risk. There is a cross walk at the corner for them to use. Thank you for your understanding and support in this regard!

With the change of seasons and the temperatures dropping, please ensure that your student is dressed warmly to come to school. School doors open at 7:45 am, even in the winter. Students must be prepared to be outside in cold temperatures.

I have enjoyed meeting many families and look forward to the opportunity to meet and work with more of you. If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call the school.
