  • February 9th is Annie Gale's Annual Science Fair! [more]

Annie Gale School Science Fair

On February 9th, 2010, Annie Gale School will be hosting its Science Fair. Students have been busily preparing their projects where they are to answer/investigate a science related question of their choice through scientific inquiry. Students will be setting up their projects in the gymnasium the morning of February 9th. A panel of judges that have a scientific background will then judge the projects. Projects will be available for public viewing for family from 11:35-12:10.

A number of projects from the Annie Gale Science Fair will be selected to move on to the Calgary Youth Science Fair held at the Big 4 Building on the Stampede Grounds, March 17, 19 and 20th. During the 2009 Calgary Youth Science Fair, Annie Gale students we awarded with over $300 in prizes. We had many projects placing in the top 3 in the categories entered.

If you have a Science Background and would like to assist in judging please contact Tom Wong at 777-7680 or email @ ttwong@cbe.ab.ca

  • The Grizzly Career Fair is on February 10th. [more]

Annie Gale Career Fair

On Wednesday, February 10, all Grade 9 students will have the opportunity to attend the Annie Gale Career Fair. Students will begin their day with a keynote speaker presentation from Mike Moore of the Calgary Hitmen. After the keynote speaker, each student will have the opportunity to attend three thirty minutes sessions on different careers.

Students have been given a career fair survey where they ranked the career sessions that most interested them. This information will be taken into consideration when placing students into each session. During each session, students will learn about the profession, its educational requirements, how to get started in the particular career and even participate in career based demonstrations.

The careers highlighted include web design, optician, social work, hair and aesthetics, acting, engineering, police officer, fire fighter and medical professions just to name a few!

  • What are the Grizzly Pride Tokens? [more]

Grizzly Pride Tokens

These tokens can be earned by students for positive behaviour and displays of Grizzly Pride. They can be given to students for anything teachers feel is commendable. For example a student can earn a token for: being a good citizen; displaying behaviour of altruism; volunteering for community service; or helping another student. Once students receive this token, they are to bring it to the office; At the end of the month we will draw names and they will win a bigger prize such as a Grizzly Pride Pen or a "Grizzly Pride" Lanyard.

Our yearbooks will include the school pictures of all students, arranged into their Teacher Advisory classes, as well as candid photos of students participating in school activities and sports. We are also including a sixteen page “World Beat” section, in which highlights of the current events and popular trends of the year are posted. This section will be in full color as well.

Happy New Year, Music Parents! I hope you all had a restful holiday season filled with family, friends and music. I would like to start by thanking you for your support of our Winter Fine Arts Evening. On December 10th, Annie Gale was filled almost to capacity with Parents, Friends and other Family Members eagerly awaiting the concert. This is the largest turn out in many years! I was filled with pride for each and every Band Student and their accomplishments so far this year!

Coming soon for parents of Grade 8 and 9 students will be a letter about Band Camp. It was rescheduled for March 4th and 5th, and again will be taking place in Banff. I will be asking for a signed letter stating your intention for attending or not attending as well as a $50 dollar deposit. This letter will come later in January.

In terms of upcoming concerts, the Grade 9 Band will be traveling to our feeder elementary schools in March/April to promote our Band Program to Grade 6 Students.

For ALL band students, Wednesday April 14th is a very important date (mark it on your calendars parents)!! This is the annual Pride In The Properties Concert happening this year at the Jubilee. Many more details will come in this newsletter and via memo’s home in the coming months. Until then – stay warm, happy and healthy

  • What’s Cooking at Annie Gale you ask? [more]

What's Cooking

Is chocolate milk good for you? Can you use it to replace a sports drinks after you work out?
Fact or Fiction?

Do you know how much fat is in the food that you eat? Is it true that the fat content of a Big Mac is equal to at least 10 teaspoons of butter? Do you know how much sugar is in the drink you are drinking? Maybe you will want to re-think your drink!

Ask the Annie Gale Nutrition Myth Busters

What’s Cooking at Annie Gale you ask? A new and exciting project for Mrs. Wyatt (AKA Lunch Lady) and 3 of the Grade 9 Leadership students. As part of the Teaming Up 4 Healthy Learners Comprehensive School program, these students will be researching Nutrition topics and busting the myths about different food items.

Each month we will focus on answering your questions on different topics related to food and nutrition and supplying you with current information from reliable sources, so you can bust the myth or confirm the fact.

If you have questions about certain food items please pass them on to the Grade 9 Leadership team and let the myth busters go to work.

We will also be placing a question box in the Cafeteria for you to drop off any of your Nutrition questions for the Myth Busters to research and bust.

We will be posting the answers to your questions on the bulletin board in the Cafeteria once a month. Hope to hear from you with your Nutrition questions.

Here’s to Healthy Eating!

Mrs. Wyatt
