IMPROV CLUB – Meets weekly at lunch in the Theatre. Learn how to say “Yes, Let’s” to every idea and create a scene on the spot!
Drama 10 (5 credits)
Students engage with games, Improvisation, script writing, costume design, Theatre History, movement and voice work. The focus is on skill development, so no matter how much or how little experience a student has, they are supported in moving to their next level.
Drama 20 (5 credits) Students who have completed Drama 10 continue to develop their characterization and voice work through scripted scenes in groups and pairs. They also create their own interpretation of a Shakespearean monologue, scene or sonnet. From comedy to tragedy – there’s something for everyone in this course!
Drama 30 (5 credits) Students who have completed Drama 20 try their hand at directing short scenes as well as one act plays! This is where it happens just like in the real world – read-through, rehearsal, production meetings, sound and lighting design, dress/tech and performance. Tips on how to prepare a monologue, get an agent and audition successfully help FLHS students get into their post-secondary theatre school or just get hired.
Technical Theatre 15/25/35 (3-5 credits) Prefer to be backstage? Sign up mid-September for Technical Theatre and be at the heart of every event in the theatre from guest speakers to the Performing Arts shows, Tech students are called on to run lights, sound and A/V. Get the training you need while earning credits. No experience necessary. This course begins mid-September (just attend the meeting to sign –up) and runs until mid-June. Credits are awarded based on the number of hours completed.
Advanced Acting 15/25/35 (5 credits) Earn credits while performing in a show! All you need to do is pass an audition in the fall for the Spring Production. Learn about theatre etiquette and protocol, rehearsal techniques that get your character noticed and be part of a great group of students who love to act! Past shows at FLHS: Our Town, Jesus Christ Superstar, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Seussical, Grease, Little Shop of Horrors and many more! Auditions are held each October and the course runs after school until the end of April.
