Diploma Requirements

Alberta High School Diploma

The Alberta High School Diploma is an official document issued by Alberta Education and certifies the holder has completed a prescribed program of instruction at a high school or through other formats under the direction and supervision of Alberta Education. Students in Alberta work towards completing an Alberta High School Diploma. To obtain an Alberta High School Diploma, a student must:

1. Earn a minimum of 100 credits

2. Complete and meet the standards of the following specified courses:
a. ELA 30-1 or ELA 30-2
b. Social Studies 30 or Social Studies 33 (To be replaced by 30-2)
c. Science 20 or Science 24; or Biology 20, Chemistry 20 or Physics 20
d. Math 20P or Math 20A or Math 24
e. Physical Education 10 (3 credits)
f. Career and Life Management (3 credits)

3. Complete and meet the following additional standards:
a. 10 credits in any combination from Career and Technology Studies, Fine Arts, Second Languages, Physical Education 20 or Physical Education 30, Locally developed (or acquired) and authorized courses in Academic Cores, CTS, Fine Arts, or French or International Languages, or TWO 35 level courses from any trade in the Registered Apprenticeship Program
b. 10 credits in any 30 level courses (in addition to ELA 30-1 or ELA 30-2 and Social Studies 30-1 or Social Studies 30-2)
